WEST, Helen Elizabeth
1920 – 2009
Helen West (Lindstedt), formerly of Lomond, AB, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary at 4:15 am on September 16, 2009 at the age of 89 years.
Helen will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her three sons: Ken (Sharon) and David (Patty) of Calgary, and Les (Karen) of Denver; her grandchildren Brad & Marla; Elizabeth, Jared, Shannon, & Nathan; Tessa, Caterina & Adam; their families plus numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her sister, Dagne (Stan Maertz) and by all her friends and relatives. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Albert on March 22, 2008; her parents Joe and Eleanor Lindstedt; and her four brothers, Art, Ralph, Irvine & Henry.
Helen was born on the Lindstedt Lomond homestead on June 24, 1920 and became a mother figure to her siblings with the loss of her mother when she was 8 years old. She married Albert West on February 5, 1945 in Vulcan, AB and they raised their 3 sons and lived on the West Family farm until retiring to Vulcan. They moved to Calgary in January 2008 for health reasons and to be closer to their sons. Helen and Albert were married for 63 years.
Our families thank everyone who was a part of our mother’s life and especially family and friends for their support during this difficult time. We extend a very special thank you to all doctors, nurses and health care providers over the years that helped care for both our Mother and Father at the Foothills Hospital, the Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary, Vulcan Hospital and the Peter Dawson Lodge in Vulcan.
Helen’s funeral service will be held Monday, September 21, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Lomond Bethany Church. Lunch and refreshments will follow at the Lomond Sunshine Drop In Centre. Interment will be 2:30 pm at the Bassano Cemetery family plot.
