McGLADDERY, Patricia Ann   1941 – 2024

In Loving Memory of Patricia
October 17, 1941 – March 22, 2024

Patricia Ann McGladdery of Vulcan, peacefully passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on March 22, 2024 at the age of 82 years.

Pat was born October 17, 1941 at Lashburn, SK, to William and Christina “Bunny” McGladdery. She moved with her family to Southern Alberta in 1943 where the family settled in Pincher Creek. Pat started her education attending a one room school house and eventually attended elementary school in Pincher Creek. When Pat was in Grade 4, it was discovered that she was nearly deaf and had self-taught herself to lip-read to communicate.

Pat had a keen sense of danger and saved her younger brothers from drowning in Pincher Creek multiple times. She helped look after her siblings and their home and when she was a teenager, she moved to Vulcan to work at an Agecare facility. In later years, she successfully earned her Drivers Licence and helped her partner Willis move houses and clean up around grain elevators. After Willis passed away, Pat moved to Champion to be closer to her second family. From Champion, she relocated to the Peter Dawson Lodge in Vulcan, then to Long Term Care at the Vulcan Hospital.

Pat was well liked by all and always had a sunny disposition. She was friendly, caring and a beautiful person inside and out and she will be missed by all and remembered with love. Pat always wore a smile and the life and laughter shone from her eyes. Rest well, Pat. Be always at peace.

“Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
I’m allowing the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that place at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.

Perhaps my time seems all too brief;
don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.”

    I don’t remember Patsy, as my Mom referred to her, but my Mother told us about her. It was back in the late 1950’s Patsy spent some time up with the Ronald and Patricia Nelson family. She was a good help to my Mother when she was raising their three young children. My mother , also named Patricia, deeply Respected Patsy’s mother Bunny McGladdery, and looked to her for a good example. They had a nice relationship where they helped each other. Patsy was a part of that. Our Nelson family is thankful for that.
