HUMPHREY, Karen Lynn 1974 – 2024

Karen Lynn Humphrey, born March 9, 1974, in Calgary, Alberta, peacefully departed from this world on March 9, 2024, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Karen’s unwavering faith in God was the cornerstone of her life’s journey. Wherever she resided, she sought solace and strength in her faith, finding a home in the embrace of various churches throughout her life.

Karen’s passion for dance was evident from a young age. She began her journey at the University of Calgary in the dance program before venturing into the wider world to pursue her dreams. Training alongside her sister Cheryl at Dynamic, Karen’s talent led her to remarkable achievements, including performances on Princess Cruises, at the 1988 Olympics opening ceremony, and across Japan and Europe. Notably, she graced the stage at every Disney venue, leaving a lasting impression wherever she danced.

In 1999, Karen embarked on a new chapter of her life, marrying Jay Humphrey on September 11th and settling in Vulcan, Alberta. Together, they shared the joys of parenthood, welcoming daughters Lily and C’Jay into their lives. Karen’s dedication to her family was unwavering, and her love and guidance shaped the lives of her daughters profoundly.

Throughout her illustrious career spanning over three decades, Karen shared her passion for dance with countless students, eventually founding her own studio, Dance Inspirations. For 17 years, she nurtured young talent, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of her students.

In her quest for personal growth and community engagement, Karen embraced a new role as an educational assistant at the Skylight Colony, imparting essential life lessons to children. Despite her busy schedule, she remained committed to her love for dance, serving as an adjudicator at competitions, enriching the dance community with her expertise.

Karen cherished moments of relaxation and joy at the lake with her beloved family, indulging in activities like boating, surfing, and basking in the warmth of the sun. Her generosity knew no bounds, extending her time and love to various communities and individuals in need. Her life exemplified kindness, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and selflessness.

Karen Lynn Humphrey’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of her husband, Jay; daughters, Lily(Kristian) and C’Jay; sister, Cheryl(Stu, Brycn, Shanese), and Brenda, and her extended family. Yet, her spirit lives on in the memories of those whose lives she touched with her boundless love, grace, and generosity. May her soul find eternal peace in the embrace of her Heavenly Father.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 at 3:30 pm at the Vulcan Cultural & Recreation Centre (CRC), Pastor David Sarsons officiating.

Karen was one of the most supportive parents I have met in my experience as a teacher. I was honored to teach both Lily and C’Jay. Karen was very involved with her daughter’s education and she made me feel like a rock star teacher. She truly showed her appreciation and recognized my efforts. Yesterday, at the funeral, it was clear to see she made that whole auditorium full of people feel seen and loved.

I will miss her but know that she could have not made such an impact on everyone in her life without a supportive parent by her side, Jay. I hope now that Jay, Lily and C’Jay can lean into all of us whenever you need us.

Karen’s daughters both have her spirit and Jay, you’ll always have her love, you’ve got this, Karen will be there to show you where all of those missing things are❤️

Our deepest condolences to Jay, Lily, C’Jay and the entire extended family. Karen was a shining star in our life. Her love for dance embraced my daughter Chelsea and now with her daughter the legacy continues from many of Karen’s teachings. She not only brought so much joy to our family but to so many more, she will be deeply missed by all that we’re graced with her presence. Love and hugs to you all. Love Linda and Rob Fauth.

I am heartbroken to hear of Karen’s passing. Karen was a fantastic dance teacher to both of my daughters for roughly 10 years. Always thoughtful, patient and kind, with a bright smile that lit up the room. Karen has touched so many, many lives as a teacher and mentor. My thoughts are with her loving family.
    Love Phyllis

There are no words to describe the unfathomable loss to your family with Karen’s passing. She was an incredible woman with a loving heart and the ability to clearly say what she meant in the funniest yet most true way. She will be forever missed within our gym family at Decidedly Fit. She was a piece of our puzzle and cannot be replaced.
Unfortunately, Tim and I are unable to attend the Celebration of Life for Karen as we are travelling, but please know we are there in spirit and Karen will forever be in our hearts. Hugs to all of her family.
