Morley Vernon ‘Taxi’ MacKenzie
February 11, 1945 – October 30, 2023

The family of Taxi MacKenzie of Vulcan are saddened to announce his passing at the Vulcan Community Health Center on October 30, 2023 at the age of 78 years.

Morley Vernon MacKenzie was born February 11, 1945 in Charlottetown, PEI to John and Hannah MacKenzie, and raised here with his siblings.

Taxi was a runaway from home at the age of 14 years old. He worked his way at small jobs over the province until he got to Alberta, where he started working at LK (XL) Ranches for 25 years. Not long after arriving in Alberta, he met the love of his life Wendy MacKenzie. Taxi and Wendy got married October 10th, 1980. Taxi and Wendy MacKenzie lived in Bassano and Dorothy before moving back to the family farm in Milo in 1994 and after that, they moved to Vulcan, AB. Taxi and Wendy participated in many parades including the Calgary Stampede. The family would like to say a thank you to Dave Mandel for taking Taxi to see his relatives in June 2023 in Prince Edward Island.

Taxi is survived by his children Heather (Trevor) Douglas, Pamela MacKenzie and Vern MacKenzie. Taxi’s siblings include Arthur (Diane) MacKenzie, Will MacKenzie, Percy MacKenzie (deceased), Rory (Elaine) MacKenzie, Annie Kinch, Ada Fall (deceased), George MacKenzie (deceased), Ruth Gallagher (deceased) and Paulette Halupa.He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Dorothy Way, Betty (Tom) Nelson, Shirley Vair, Margaret Howell and 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 8th, 2023 at 1 pm at the Milo Community Centre, Sue MacDonald, D.M. officiating. Interment O’ Perfect Peace Cemetery, Milo, AB.

    Taxi left an impression on everyone he met.
    The time he spent helping out at Therapeutic Riding at the Okotoks Indoor Arena, Taxi would chat to every student that participated in the four (4) sessions every Tuesday through the fall and winter.. He was clearly the favorite “side walker” and brought smiles and laughter to them all.

    Taxi will be sorely missed by all.
