It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Erik Esko on March 16, 2010 at the age of 80 years.

Erik was born July 16, 1929 at Overtornea, Sweden where he served in the Army. He came to Canada and worked as a professional painter for many years until retiring in 1994. Erik was well known as the guy with paint on his shoes who never left anything unpainted.

Eric married Gladys Newbury and they spent many good times skiing at Banff, Lake Louise and Mount Norquay. They also enjoyed spending weekends together in their trailer at Canmore. Since Erik loved the sun, they had a place in Phoenix that they went to every year. Other activities that he enjoyed were duck hunting and fishing.

Following the passing of the love of his life, Gladys, in 1992, Erik came to live with his granddaughter. Two years later Erik moved into Vulcan Community Health Centre Long term Care where he resided for fifteen years until his passing. He met many friends including his companion Norma Lewis and playing poker for pennies was their game.

At Erik’s request, in lieu of a formal funeral service, he asked that a prayer be said and said “cheers, so long!”

If friends so desire, tributes in Erik’s memory can be made to the Vulcan Community Health Centre Long Term Care, Box 299, Vulcan, T0L 2B0.
