August 31, 1923 – January 19, 2009

Born in Scotland, Bill came to Canada in 1948 where he worked as a plumber and gas fitter in Banff. Vulcan became his home in 1980 working for the County of Vulcan, Maintenance Department, until his retirement in 1988.

Bill met his surviving wife Judy Coburn in 1979, purchased a home and because of the love of his first West Highland Terrier, Jamie, they opened the Drybrig Kennel, which became one of the best Westie Kennels in Canada, and won many ribbons.  The Drybrig Kennel became crowded in town, so it was relocated to an acreage east of Vulcan.

Bill loved his Westies and attending the dog shows.  He also loved gardening  and many sports, including football and soccer.   He always had a summer project which kept him busy in the yard.  Bill was a member of the Vulcan Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years.

Husband of Judy Coburn for 28 years, Bill was father to her two daughters, grandfather to one granddaughter and two grandsons.

Bill is survived by two sisters, a brother and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill’s surviving family from Banff includes one son, four daughters, five grandsons, one granddaughter and one great granddaughter.

A family wake will be held at the Vulcan Legion at a later date. At Bill’s request his ashes will be spread on the family plot in Scotland.

In lieu of flowers, tributes in Bill’s memory can be made to a local charity.
