Carl John Steiner, beloved husband of Marcella of Nanton, passed away August 29, 2008 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 83 years.
Carl lived on the family farm, which celebrated its Centennial in 2002 and was active in the Vulcan Community until his retirement to Nanton in 1990.  He was a member of the Vulcan Lions Club, Oddfellows and Community Band and was a Life Member of the Vulcan Golf Club.  Some of his other interests included woodworking, gardening, golfing and dancing.  He enjoyed his friends both at home and in Yuma where he and Marcella spent the winters.  He

CHRISTENSEN, James V. “Skeez”  1926 – 2008

James V. “Skeez” Christensen passed away at home in Vulcan August 19, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
James, who was nicknamed Skeez after a comic strip character, was born on October 21, 1926 at Airdrie, Alberta to Bill and Effie Christensen.  He attended school in Champion and  received his Grade 12 education in High River.  Skeez went on to attend Mount Royal College and SAIT in 1944/1945.  His first job was with Massey Harris as a combine engineer working with experimental combines in Canada and the U.S.A.  He obtained his pilot’s license in 1946 along with his brother Leslie.

Our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Ron Nicholls, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Vulcan Community Health Center on August 12, 2008 at the age of 85 years.
Ron was born November 16, 1922 in Thunder Bay, Ont. to John “Jack” and Margaret Nicholls. Ron was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Joyce, his brother William, sister Margaret and sister-in-law Marjorie Wighi.

Barry Delmar Hegland passed away suddenly on July 11, 2008 at Lomond, Alberta the age of 53 years.

Boutland, Charles “Charlie” Woodrow passed away June 12, 2008 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 98 years.
Charlie was born August 19, 1909 at MacLeod, Alberta to Charles and Helen Boutland.  He was raised in Nanton.  Charlie was a WWII Veteran and served in the Regina Rifles Regiment. He fought overseas all throughout Europe and participated in the D Day Invasion.  Charlie was involved in the grocery store business all of his life.  The last two years he spent at Vulcan Extendicare and was lovingly cared for by all of the staff.

Degenstein, August Joseph passed away peacefully at Vulcan Extendicare May 8, 2008 at the age of 94 years.
August was born on October 24, 2913 at Berwick, North Dakota to Joseph and Barbara Degenstein. When August was five years old they moved to Turin, Alberta and later to Lomond.
August joined the Royal Canadian Engineers Corp. in 1942. He married Dorothy Hummel in June, 1943. The following month he was sent overseas and served on the front lines in WWII until returning home in December 1945.  August moved his family to Warner where he worked on the Lorne McKenzie farm.
