Kenneth Olaf Sokvitne, beloved husband of Florence, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 in the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 87.
Ken was born in Lomond on June 4, 1921.  He rode his horse each day to the Snake Valley School and then farmed with his dad until he joined the army in 1942.  He did his military training in Vancouver and Tofino, B.C., was stationed overseas in Britain, Holland and Belgium and was discharged in 1946 then continued farming with his brothers.

Birdella Alberta Sealock formerly of the Armada district passed away peacefully at Vulcan Community Health Centre February 6, 2009 at the age of 91 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her five children Ken (Marie) of Milo, Bill (Maxine) of Kamloops, B.C., Glenda (Ron) of Jupiter, Florida, Donna (Jack) of Brooks, Don (Del) of Medicine Hat, sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, a sister Laverne Schlaht of Lomond, numerous nieces and nephews.
Birdella was predeceased by her husband Glenn, her parents Vern and Blanche Williams, sisters Eileen Donley and Melba Williams.

Roy David Leadbeater passed away suddenly at Vulcan Community Health Centre January 31, 2009 at the age of 44 years.
Roy was born August 31, 1964 at Vulcan, Alberta the second son of Walter and Lois Leadbeater. He was raised on the family farm at Sholdice, Alberta and attended Arrowwood and Vulcan Schools. During school, Roy worked at the County of Vulcan repair shop for work experience, and after he graduated, he continued working for the County shop as their “tire guy”. Roy apprenticed for four years through SAIT in Calgary and received his Heavy Duty Diesel Technician certification in 1992.

Lyall was born May 20, 1921 in Vulcan, Alberta to Fred and Annie Graham. He passed away peacefully in the Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary January 28, 2009 in his 87th year.
Lyall received all his schooling in Vulcan and farmed with his brothers until he moved to his own farm, where he continued to farm until his passing.  He married Jean Connolly in 1994 and acquired seven step-children and numerous grandchildren. Lyall was affectionately known as “Pops” to all.  Jean and Lyall made frequent trips to visit children and grandchildren.  He loved to camp and travel, making trips to Ontario, Mexico,

Osborne, Eileen Catherine, beloved wife of Allan “Ossie” Osborne (Ossie’s Renovations), passed away January 8, 2009 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 67 years. Being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by her family
Eileen is survived by her husband Ossie, a daughter Toni (Keith) Grills, two sons Albert (Tammy) Pfeuti, Michael (Lucia) Pfeuti, five grandchildren Elaina (Robert) Gardipie, Nicole Grills, Albert Jr. Pfeuti, Chris Pfeuti, Brittney Pfeuti, brother Moirris (Alice) Catley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eileen was predeceased by her first husband Albert Pfeuti, a sister Denise Frazer and her parents.

Barr, Stella Louise passed away peacefully January 6, 2009 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 94 years.
Louise was born on the family farm at Majorville, Alberta on December 3, 1914, the second daughter of eight children, to Fred and Tillie Bertschy.  She attended four schools through the years: Rocky Butte, East Majorville, Liberty and finally Robertson school which opened in 1928.  Louise would go to the Robertson School early as she was the janitor and responsible for starting the wood stove to warm the school house.  She had many responsibilities growing up as big sister to her

Smith, Douglas Burton passed away January 6, 2009 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 88 years.
Doug was born at Vulcan on September 14, 1920 to Donald and Hazel Smith.  He spent his early years in Washington State where his dad had a garage.  The family moved back to the Reid Hill District in time for Doug to start grade one.  He attended Marshall School until Grade 9 and Vulcan High School to Grade 12.  Doug went to Vancouver to Aeronautical Tech School and upon graduation was posted to #2 AOS School in Edmonton.  He was transferred to

Quick, Odelia “Tillie” passed away January 5, 2009 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 86 years.
Tillie was born December 24, 1922 at Fox Valley, Saskatchewan to Leon and Victoria Buye.  She attended school at Fox Valley until Grade 11.  Tillie then moved to Barons at the age of 16.  When she was 18 she moved to Medicine  Hat.  Tillie met Wes Quick at the age of 20 and they were married in 1943 at Vernon BC.  They moved to Kelowna then to Wetaskwin.  From there they moved to the Red Deer area then to High Level where
