BENETEAU, Romeo Joseph 1946 – 2023

Romeo Joseph Beneteau of Vulcan passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre October 5, 2023 at the age of 76.

Romeo was born November 12, 1946 in Windsor, Ontario. Romeo was a farmer for most of his life, alongside his brother Harvey, who loyally supported each other throughout their entire lives. The worked in Coronation, and then in Arrowwood and Mossleigh, where they decided to start a tire recycling business. In 1991, they settled in the town of Vulcan and bought a building downtown to run their business. They sold that business in 1997 and started work with the Vulcan County Transfer Station, where they remained until retiring in 2013.

In 2013, Romeo’s health was in decline, but he always remained a constant in his brother’s life. Romeo and Harvey enjoyed travelling and visiting amazing places such as the Yukon, Alaska, the Arctic Circle and various places in Saskatchewan and the northern United States. Romeo will surely be missed by his brother Harvey.

    Harvey,
Please accept the condolences of our entire family. As we look back, it was a real privilege to grow up together in the small community of River Canard. Romeo was always shy and reserved. We made it through St. Joseph School and farming would be our first love. We went through one of the worst financial crises in the ‘80’s.
You and Romeo were inseparable and together achieved what is most important in life – the respect of everyone you met, worked with and worked for.
Sue and I, Leonard and our families are so happy to have been your lifetime friends. We are very sorry for the loss of your best friend, your brother, Romeo.

Romeo and his brother Harvey worked for our Gibb Farms family farming business and agribusiness from 1975 to 1984. There was absolutely nothing they couldn’t or wouldn’t do and everything they did was done with an enthusiastic smile on their faces. They were an inseparable and terrific team and were an integral part of our family. Heartfelt condolences to Harvey and may Romeo rest in peace.

I worked with Romeo and Harvey at the Vulcan Waste Transfer Station. Every morning, the guys made me a tea, and we would sit and enjoy our warm drinks before we started work. Both Harvey and Romeo are and were the kindest of gentlemen. I was so sorry to hear of Romeo’s passing, and am thinking of Harvey at this sad time.

My Condolences to Harry & all of Roe’s family. I have many fond memories of Harv & Roe working at our family farm in Manitoba when I was growing up. They taught me many things about farming and were always there wherever anyone needed help with anything. I lost touch with them when they moved to Alberta but often think of those fond memories. Thinking of you Harvey, Take Care of yourself.
