Walker, (Alvin) Ronald “Ron”of Lomond, Alberta passed away Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 69 years.
Ron was born July 23, 1935 at Champion, Alberta to Fred and Helen Walker. He attended Yetwood, Rosemead and Travers school until 1944 when the family moved to the Bill Newton farm just north of Lomond. On October 27, 1963 Ron married Delores Ruggles. Together they lived on his father’s land, raising their family, working the land and raising livestock, which was his passion. In the late 1980’s Ron started to get involved with horse racing. He loved to go to the races and was always attending auction sales. It was not very often that Ron would return home from a sale without purchasing some kind of animal. His purchase of animals included thoroughbreds, miniature donkeys and horses, chickens and rabbits. Ron would never allow an animal to starve in the winter as he would even feed the town cats behind the local store, going as far as warming their milk. Ron continued to live on the family farm until his passing.
Ron enjoyed a variety of sports. During ball season he would always make a point to be home to watch the Cleveland Indians. Ron also enjoyed curling. In his younger years he was an avid curler, traveling to the brier a couple of times. When unable to attend the brier, Ron would watch curling on TV. He also enjoyed traveling, with his favorite holiday spot being Hawaii, where he tried to go every other year.
Ron loved his wife Delores, children and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing special times and his love of animals with his family and friends.
Beloved husband of Delores of Lomond, loving father of daughter Pamela (Trent) Tornquist of Lomond, son Sheldon (Katie) of Milo, two grandchildren Shawntel and T.J. Tornquist, two surrogate grandsons Lance and Dustin Gillespie of Calgary, sister-in-law Paulene Walker of Cochrane, brother-in-law Ernie (Liz) Ruggles of Lomond, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his father and mother, Fred and Helen, brother Doug, and father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Violet Ruggles.
Funeral service Thursday, December 23, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lomond, Alberta with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.
Casket bearers Everett Ruggles, Larry Root, Darren Lebsack, Marvin Henrickson, Buckey Ruggles and Garry Marks.
Internment Lomond Cemetery.
