Lawrence Donald “Bay” Frey of Vulcan, Alberta passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 81 years.
Lawrence was born November 7, 1923 at Coaldale, Alberta to Erwin and Elizabeth Frey. He received his education at Readymade school. In 1950 Lawrence married Betty Marie Riley. He farmed with his father until 1958. Lawrence and Betty then moved to a farmstead west of Carmangay. In 1966 the family moved to Glen Greene’s farm three miles south of Vulcan. Lawrence actively farmed until 2000. He moved into the Long Term Care Unit at the Vulcan Community Health Centre due to health reasons.
Lawrence loved hunting, fishing and playing card games. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball. Lawrence was a member of the Champion Seniors Drop-in Centre. He was known for his sense of humor and he loved to tease.
Loving father of a son Doug (Jocelyn Fradette) of Vulcan, a grand daughter Rachael, Jocelyn’s children Tina (Greg) Storle of Lake Alma, Sasskatchewan, Kyla Eddy (Al) of Tuxford, Saskatchewan, Larry (Sharon) Skold of Calgary, three sisters Fran (Delvin) Andrews, Deanna (Edward) Smith all of Lethbridge, Bonnie Mullhand of Grand Forks, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was predeceased by his wife Betty in 1984, a brother Ronald and his parents.
Funeral service was Monday, January 3, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Vulcan United Church, Vulcan with Sue McDonald D.M. officiating.
Honorary bearers were Stan Comstock, Gerry Gorill, Ron Barnes, John Weibe and Harvey Wenzel.
Casket bearers were Larry Skold, Jim Barnes, Greg Andrews, Bernard Bexte, Stu Birch and Brad Larkins.
Internment Vulcan Cemetery.
