THOMSON, Joseph “Joe” Milo 1926 – 2008

Thomson, Joseph Milo “Joe” passed away peacefully at home September 2, 2008 at the age of 82 years.

Joe was born February 1, 1926, raised and educated in Milo, Alberta.  After serving in the Canadian Navy during WWII, he returned to Milo and took over the family general store business.  In 1952 he married Bernice “Bea” Anderson and together they made their home in Milo until they relocated to Calgary in 1989. They operated Thomson’s Store until 1981 when they retired from the business to pursue their love of golf and their winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.  Joe took an active part in community life, was a Charter and Life Member of the Milo Lions Club, served as a volunteer fire fighter and was a member of the Village Council where he served as Mayor.  Thomson’s Store was a natural meeting place for the residents of Milo and district and Joe’s natural habitat.  All were welcome whether to do business, have a coffee or exchange some good-natured sarcasm.  Joe lived well, laughed often and loved the company of family, friends and acquaintances.

Beloved husband of Bea, loving father of Jim, two grandchildren Graham (Kerry) and Sarah, sister Jean, two brothers Ian and Robbie (Sharon).

Joe was predeceased by his brother Jim and his parents Joe Sr. and Mary.

Memorial service Monday September 8, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Milo Community Hall with Donald O’Dwyer officiating.
