SOMERVILLE, Albert Lee Roy 1942 – 2023

Albert “Lee” Roy Somerville was born November 29,1942 in Vulcan, Alberta to Bert & Simone Somerville. He lived, went to school and worked in Vulcan throughout his life. After school he worked at the Alberta Treasury Branch for a few years before a short stint farming. In 1967 he married the love of his life Beth and started their own trucking company. He also ran heavy equipment for various employers until 1976. In 1977 Lee switched careers to become a “cement man”. From pouring concrete basements, footings, driveways and sidewalks to hauling gravel, backhoe and bobcat work to landscaping to snow removal, there was always something to do. Lee spent many hours creating beautiful spaces for his family and friends to enjoy at the family farm and dam. Throughout the years Lee enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, camping, curling, skiing, the occasional rum and collecting everything that someone, somewhere, might need. He was also a member of the Vulcan Legion and Elks Lodge. Lee always had a smile, a sense of humor and a story to share. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed by his family, his friends, and everyone that knew and loved Lee.

Lee passed away Dec 13, 2023 in Calgary AB at the age of 81.

He is survived by Beth, his wife of 56 years, his children Tim (Colette) Hart, Leanne (Bas) Owel, Lana (John) Markwart and Lance (Zoe) Somerville, his 15 grandchildren- Brett (Jordyn), Stefenie (Davidson), Tayler, Danica (Evan), Tanner (Magen), Wyatt, Jaxan, Teagan, Mikyla, Kade, Ben, Treva, Grace, Sadie and Emily , his sister Yvonne, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Lee’s life will be held Friday December 22, 2023 at 1:30 at Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald M.D officiating.

Lee’s cremains will return to the place he loved the most, at the farm.

If friends so desire honorariums can be made to the charity of your choice.

My condolences to Beth and the entire Somerville family for the passing of Lee. May your memories keep him near for years to come. I always enjoyed his company whether on the ski hill or after with a small rum. He did projects for me from small to huge jobs like the water plant at the resort with a continuous pour of twenty seven transit loads of concrete. I will always remember the fun we had designing and building a sign for Little Bow Resort; it will last forever. He will be missed!
