SIMMONS, Nora Eileen 1927 – 2024

Nora Eileen Simmons 1927 – 2024

Nora passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Heath Care Centre at the age of 96 years, with her family at her side.

Nora was born in Rimbey, Alberta to Lyle & Zerola Visger. She married the love of her life, Harvey Simmons, in 1950, and together they raised four girls.

Being active in her community, Nora was involved with the Ambulance Service, homecare, lifeline, Girl Guides and a founding member of the Vulcan Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Throughout her life, Nora was a devoted member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

She enjoyed traveling with Harvey. They traveled to places like Hawaii, Dominican Republic, the Maritimes, Arizona, California, Alaska, Branson and Vegas.

Quilting and crafts were an enjoyment for Nora. Giving little things she’d made to brighten someone’s day gave her pleasure. There were many big quilt projects but the little things had just as much meaning.

Nora’s love for her savior and friend Jesus was seen daily in the way she lived her life. Her faith gave her courage to face hard times and the positive outlook she had for each day. She never lost her enthusiasm for the life God had given her.

Her gentle touch, sparkling eyes, heartfelt smile, and mischievous side were filled with youth and zest. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her got to see the light and joy she carried with her and shared with all.

Nora will be lovingly remembered by daughters Judi (Richard), Diane, Wanda (Dave), Son-in-law Tim, ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, sister Bonnie Triebwasser, and sister-in-law Darlene Halladay, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband Harvey in 2016, her daughter Caryn in 2020, and siblings Alberta, Robert, Elva, Dale, and Joan.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 2:30 pm at the Vulcan Church of Christ, Rev. David Skinner officiating. Interment Vulcan Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Nora’s memory to the Vulcan Healthcare Auxiliary, Box 299, Vulcan, AB T0L2B0, or by email – vhcaux@hotmail.com.

We’re so sorry to hear of Aunt Noras passing. She was a wonderful lady and a favorite Aunty. I’ve heard many stories about happy times of when my dad and his family went to visit. My dad is out of the country right now and is unable to attend the funeral today but would like to pass on condolences. A donation will be made in her name to the Vulcan Health Care Auxiliary.

On behalf of the Fodor family, I would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Wanda and the rest of the Simmons family. Your mum was like a second mother to me, growing up so closely with you and she is so dear to me. Nora was also one of our mother’s oldest and most precious friends and was always a support to her as well. You are all in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve this great loss.
