Ruppert, Peter Stephen passed away at Vulcan, Alberta February 12, 2010 at the age of 89 years.
Pete was born March 10, 1920 at Graystones, Alberta to Frank and Margaret Ruppert. He met Anna Chase and they were married on November 1, 1942. Pete proudly served his country with the 65th Tank Transport Division in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked in Special Areas and was assigned to work in Lomond in 1949. Pete and Anna loved the area and have continued to reside there since. He also worked as a welder for the Lomond Service Garage. Peter later started his own welding shop which he sold in 1979. His motto was “we weld everything but broken hearts”. Pete was committed to his family and to the Lomond community and served as Fire Chief and Mayor for many years. In that position he was instrumental in having Highway 845 constructed to better serve the community. Pete and Anna’s families have enjoyed many happy summers camping at Williams Lake. Pete was a long time member of the Lomond Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Besides his loving wife Anna of 67 years, Pete is survived by his children Margaret (Don) Zuba of Airdrie, Frank (Marion) of Burdett, Erich (Carol) of Lomond, Marie (Bill) Moskal of Coaldale, ten grandchildren Veronica (Tyson) Ormann, Trevor (Angie) Zuba, Michelle (Arne) Gjerlaug, Lori Ruppert, Quentin (Shannon) Ruppert, Steven (Vanessa) Ruppert; Peter J (Arianna) Ruppert, Chad (Susanne) Moskal, Cody (Lyndsay) Moskal, Sean Moskal, nine great grandchildren, three sisters, three brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete was predeceased by his son William in 1975, his parents and two brothers.
Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday February 16, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Lomond with Rev. Gordon Cranch officiating.
