POBST, Lorraine  1929 – 2011

Lorraine Lillian Pobst of Edmonton (formerly of Arrowwood) passed away March 6, 2011, in the University of Alberta Hospital at the age of 81 years.

Lorraine was born June 4, 1929 in Sundre, Alberta to Chris and Hazel Sheets, and lived in the Westward Ho area until moving to Calgary in 1941. After the war in 1945 the family relocated to New Westminster. After grade eleven, she went to work. She met Arnold Pobst shortly after and they were married March 26,1947. They travelled back and forth between Arrowwood and B.C. and in 1958, they were able to purchase a farm in Arrowwood where they resided until Arnold’s passing in September 2005. She then retired to a condo in Edmonton to be closer to her daughters.

Lorraine was active in the community, church, UCW, Home & School, & the Local Association of Brownies and Guides. Lorraine had a tremendously strong work ethic and kept very busy gardening, canning, sewing, doing chores around the farm and raising four busy daughters. She also enjoyed travelling in their camper, fishing, golfing and curling.

Loving mother of four daughters: Lois (Allan Berg) of Kelowna, Louise (Rick Klippert), Janet (Jean-Guy Charest) all of Edmonton, Joan(Sid Nelson) of Beaumont, five grandchildren Simon (Janel)Berg, Dr. Alana (Robertson Fait)Berg, Russell Nelson, Robert Nelson, and Brett Nelson, two great granddaughters Myla Fait and Kaydence Berg, sister Myrtle Goeson, sister-in-law Gloria Sheets, both of Maple Ridge, BC, brother George (Pat) Sheets of 100 Mile House, BC, brothers and sisters-in-law from Arnold’s family, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Arnold, two sisters, two brothers and her parents.

Funeral services were held March 12, 2011 at the Arrowwood United Church with Rev. Doug Ireland officiating.

Honorary bearers were Allan Berg, Richard Klippert, and Sidney Nelson.

Casket bearers were grandsons: Simon Berg, Russell Nelson, Robert Nelson, Brett Nelson, Robertson Fait and Jean-Guy Charest.

    Patricia and I send our sympathy to all of you. We were planning on bringing Myrtle but we all were down with very bad colds and figured it would be better to pass.

    Louise and family, I was so shocked today when I found out that your Mom had passed away. I had been in Arrowwood a couple days before her funeral and never saw a notice. If I had known we would have come to the service.Please accept our deepest sympathy. Gordon and Joyce Roe
