Jane Brinston Lake (Smith) passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024 at South Health Campus Calgary at the age of 52 years.
Jane was born on December 29, 1971 to parents Edward and June Smith. Jane spent her childhood in Calgary in various communities in the city, spending the beginning of her life in Bridgeland, then moving to Radisson Heights, and finally to Marlborough. After getting married, she moved to Huntington then in 2007 Scott, Jane and Vic moved out to Vulcan where she spent the remainder of her life. Ed was born July 14, 1941 in Vulcan but lived nearly his whole life in the Carseland area. He married his High School sweetheart Penny Malmberg in 1965. They spent two years in Herronton while she taught school in Brant and he ran the grain elevator. Shortly after, they moved to the Mace family homestead which he farmed for many years. Bill was born August 3, 1934 in Arrowwood, AB, son of Walter and Edith Steiner. He was raised and educated in Arrowwood. Bill later attended Olds School of Agriculture for two years where he won an award for Highest Standing in Farm Mechanics. In 1945, he spent the winter in Calgary taking a Welder’s course. Sheila was born December 19, 1932 at London, Ontario. Due to her father’s job with CPR, they moved to Hamilton, ON and then back to London to start her schooling. She completed Grade 11 before getting a job as a telegraph operator for CP Rail.

Judy was born November 3, 1966, in Bassano, Alberta to parents Tom & Ruth Williams. After attending school in Arrowwood and Vulcan, Judy completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary, and went on to teach elementary and junior high school in Milo, Arrowwood, and Vulcan. Arnon ‘Arnie’ Bigelow of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on July 4, 2024 at the age of 80 years.
Arnie was born in Trochu, Alberta, the second oldest of five children to Carl and Reeta Bigelow. He grew up in the Wimborne area, attending schools in Collingwood, Wimborne and graduating high school in Torrington.
In 1963, Arnie’s parents and the family left Canada moving to Coeur d’Alene, ID where they owned and operated a motel. In 1964, fate brought Arnie back to Canada.
It was in 1965 that Arnie met Pat Walker in Calgary, thanks to a roommate.

Cody Alexander Whiteside passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024 at the age of 85 years surrounded by his loving family. He lived life to the fullest and maintained close relationships to both of his children and all of his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Cody was a highly respected member of the Vulcan community, and was an active member of the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge for many years. He remained vibrant until his passing, residing in the house he had shared with his beautiful wife Linda Diane Whiteside.

Miss Lilly was born to John and Elizabeth Cannon on March 9, 1932 in Michel, B.C.
It was in Michel that she met her love, Charles Alexander Howe. Dad always said they fell in love at recess. They spent their childhoods together and married in 1950 in Calgary, AB. They spent the following 62 years together. Living in Michel, they welcomed their first two children, Glenn and Garry.

James ‘Jim’ Roy Stewart of Vulcan, passed away at the Calgary South Health Campus on July 23, 2024 at the age of 79 years.
Jim grew up on a farm near Mossleigh, Alberta. He lost his father at a young age and after his father’s passing, he and his mother moved to Lethbridge and later moved back to Vulcan.
Throughout his life he lived in several places in Southern Alberta, settling in Vulcan around 16 years ago. The people of Vulcan greeted him as he did his daily rounds through the downtown, reporting the weather and was especially concerned that all were
