Kenneth “Ken” Ray Nelson passed away September 25,2007 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 66 years.

Ken was born March 11, 1941 in Bassano, Alberta to Palmer and Alma Nelson.
He was raised on the farm near Queenstown and received his schooling in Queenstown and Milo. Ken and his brother David operated a mixed farming operation of cattle and grain.  On February 24, 1973 Ken married Charlotte Gooch in Vulcan and together they lived in Queenstown until July 1982, at which time they built a house on the farm where he resided until his passing.

Ken’s true passion in life was his children, granddaughter and farming. He loved working the land, looking after the livestock and enjoyed the pleasures of living on the farm. Ken was a very knowledgeable man and enjoyed reading newspapers and National Geographics. He kept abreast of world affairs, studied maps and was extremely interested in geography. Ken and Charlotte loved to travel to several spots in the United States with New York City and San Francisco being among his favorites. A few years ago they traveled to Europe, which they both enjoyed immensely.

In his younger years he coached the little kids in squirts and eventually coached his sons Brady’s team. Ken enjoyed playing hockey and played with the Vulcan, Milo and Lomond mens teams for several years until his health became an issue and wouldn’t allow him to play anymore. Ken was a member of the Milo Ice Community, Milo Co-op, Ag Society and the Milo Curling Club.

Beloved husband of Charlotte Nelson of Milo, loving father of a daughter Brooke Nelson (Joe Sabourin) of Calgary, a son Brady (JanLaree) Nelson and granddaughter Reese all of Mortlach, Saskatchewan, two sisters Julia (Jim) Brown of Nanton, Joan Nelson of High River, two brothers Chris (Deanna) Nelson of Arrowwood, David (Julie) Nelson of Milo, mother-in-law Mabel Gooch of High River, sister-in-law Sheryl Gooch of Calgary, brother-in-law Dennis (Darlene) Gooch of Vulcan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ken was predeceased by his parents Pal and Alma Nelson, two sisters and their husbands June (Eugene) Bushell, Sheila (Jack) Long, father-in-law George Gooch, two nieces Monique Brown, Nicole Nelson, two nephews Bradley Nelson and Alvin Nelson.

Funeral service Friday  September 28, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Milo Community Hall with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.

Casket bearers Earl Marshman, Bob Fitzpatrick, Ward Willard, Dennis Cyr, Alvin Shields and Dale Cote.

Internment Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Milo, Alberta.
