MCLEAN, Murray Wilson 1954 – 2019

Murray Wilson McLean, of Vulcan, beloved husband of Norma, passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident near Vulcan on June 19, 2019 at the age of 64 years.

Murray was born on July 12, 1954 in Calgary to Ken and Doris McLean. He and his four siblings were raised on the family farm in the Berrywater/Eastway district northeast of Vulcan, which his Grandfather had homesteaded in 1909.

Murray was a member of the Berrywater 4-H Beef Club during his younger years. He went to school in Milo and Vulcan and in 1972, continued his education in Welding at SAIT in Calgary. Murray had various jobs during the winter months including Alberta Parks, S & S Concrete, bus driving and Gamon Holdings in Milo. He started his own trucking business in 1996 and to this day continues on. Murray was a Vulcan County Councilor for four years and was very active in his community. He was a Board member with the Vulcan County Health & Wellness Foundation, Past President of the Vulcan Curling Club, Badland Grazing Association Board Member, and a Director on the Little Bow Feeders Association.

Over the years, Murray made an abundance of friendships and impacted many with his quick wit and keen sense of humor. He was beloved by an entire community and he will be missed dearly.

Besides his loving wife Norma, Murray is survived by his two sons Scott (Amber) McLean of Vulcan and Marty (Jennifer) McLean of Kamloops, B.C., daughter Kelly (Dan) Hartmann of High River, seven grandchildren – Olivia, Noah and Evan McLean, Audrey and Lauren McLean and Cole and Wyatt Hartmann, his sisters Myrna (Bob) Schmidt of Red Deer, AB and Lana (Gord) Mallery of Calgary, brothers Dale (Mollie) McLean of Magnolia, Texas, and Gordon (Linda) McLean of Vulcan, numerous nieces, nephews, mother-in-law Gladys Rushfeldt, brother-in-law Leighton (Penny) Rushfeldt, sisters-in-law Brenda Mueller, Valerie Holm and Sharon (Dave) Serben and a community of friends. He was predeceased by his parents Ken and Doris McLean, father-in-law Vic Rushfeldt, brothers-in-law Allen Mueller and Bob Holm.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 27 2019 at 1:30 pm at the Vulcan Cultural & Recreation Centre (504 – 4 Ave South), Sue MacDonald, D.M officiating. Inurnment Vulcan Cemetery.

Norma and family, while it is an unlikely time for Murray’s passing, his life’s journey certainly covered many miles and touched many hearts along the way with his genuine love of life, family, friends and community. May you find comfort knowing he is in eternal peace – we all lost a good one!
