McLAREN, ROBERT KYDD OF VULCAN, ALBERTA PASSED ON TO THE HANDS OF THE LORD JESUS NOVEMBER 19, 2000 AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE AT THE AGE OF 75 YEARS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT HIS SIDE.

ROBERT WAS BORN NOVEMBER 24, 1924 AT STIRLING, SCOTLAND TO ROBERT AND BETSY McLAREN. ROBERT ATTENDED SCHOOL NEAR STERLING AND BEGAN WORKING AT A LOCAL BUTCHER SHOP, WHERE HE HELPED TO PREPARE MEATS AND DELIVERED IT TO CUSTOMERS. HE ENLISTED IN THE NAVY IN 1943 AND SERVED ON NUMEROUS VESSELS UNTIL HIS DISCHARGE IN 1947 AND HE RETURNED HOME. IN 1954 ROBERT LEFT THE HOME LAND AND MOVED TO PENTICTON, B.C TO WORK IN THE CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS, HIS CRAFT WAS THAT OF A STONE MASON AND OTHER CONCRETE WORK. HIS LAST PROJECT WAS ON THE LAKE SHORE HOTEL IN PENTICTON IN 1983. HE MOVED TO VULCAN WITH ANNE WHILE SHE CARED FOR HER MOTHER, THEN TO CALGARY IN 1989. THEY RETURNED TO VULCAN IN 1991 WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.

ROBERT RETURNED HOME NUMEROUS TIMES TO SEE HIS MOTHER AND THE FINAL TIME FOR HER FUNERAL WHEN SHE WAS JUST SHORT OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY. HE MADE FRIENDS EASILY, BUT KEPT TO HIMSELF. HE ENJOYED PLAYING DARTS. ROBERT WAS A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION AT BOTH VULCAN AND PENTICTON.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS BELOVED COMPANION OF 21 YEARS ANNE MARKIN OF VULCAN, LOVING FATHER OF THREE DAUGHTERS ANNE (BIL) FRENCH OF NARAMATA, B.C., CATHERINE (CAL) LENAGHAN OF O.K. FALLS, B.C., COLLEEN (VICTOR) CYR OF HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, TWO SONS ROBERT (NANCY) McLAREN, GORDON (PAM) McLAREN ALL OF PENTICTON, B.C., TWO STEP DAUGHTERS GLENDA MARKIN OF VULCAN, ROSE (DON) JOHNSON OF PENTICTON, B.C., NINE GRANDCHILDREN, THREE STEP GRANDCHILDREN, THREE SISTERS CATH McNIVEN OF SCOTLAND, MAY (DENNIS) PHILLIPS OF PENTICTON, BETTE (JIM) IMRIE OF STERLING, SCOTLAND, THREE BROTHERS JOCK (IRENE) OF CALGARY, GRAHAM OF KAMLOOPS, TOM (MYRNA) OF PENTICTON, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

ROBERT WAS PREDECEASED BY TWO BROTHERS WILL, JIM AND HIS PARENTS.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD IN PENTICTON AT THE SALVATION ARMY DECEMBER 1, 2000 AT 1P.M. WITH INURNMENT AT LAKE VIEW CEMETERY, FIELD OF HONOUR, PENTICTON, B.C.

THE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND THEIR SINCERE THANKS TO THE DOCTORS WADE, RAATH AND WEBSTER, HOSPITAL NURSES, CLINIC STAFF, YVONNE HILL FOR ALL THE GOODIES, THE MANY CARDS AND PHONE CALLS. WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT THE COMMUNITY OF VULCAN HAS DONE FOR US IN OUR TIME OF NEED, THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS.
