LEADBEATER, Lois E. 1938 – 2012

Leadbeater, Lois of Shouldice, AB, passed away suddenly on August 5, 2012 at home at the age of 73 years.

Lois was born on Sept 18, 1938 on the family farm 2 ½ miles east of Arrowwood to Stewart and Ella (Robinson) Hayes. She attended school at Arrowwood grades 1 to 11 and grade 12 in Cluny Central where she graduated. She was involved in Guiding as a young girl and later a Guide leader in Lethbridge. She then attended U of A, Edmonton for 2 years graduating as a Physio Therapist. After 3 years of work at St Mike’s hospital in Lethbridge, she married Walter Leadbeater in a double wedding with sister Carolyn and Duane Binning in 1961.

They had 3 sons, Brian, Roy and Glenn. Walt and Lois enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends. Card playing and Bingo was always a favorite at the Gleichen Legion of which they were members.

Lois was a very caring person, thinking of others before herself. This was definitely shown with her care for Walter when he took ill, by learning how to do dialysis at home for him for 5 years before his passing in 1984. Her caring nature was shown again in her concern for her parents, Stewart and Ella and her brother Ron before their passing. She remained strong and dedicated to the care of son Brian after his auto accident in 1991. The sudden loss of son Roy in 2008 was a very sad time for Lois and family.

Lois was a member of the Arrowwood Booster Club and later the Arrowwood Seniors. She was an avid reader and a good customer of the Arrowwood Library having books on order many times.

Lois was a very proud Grandmother of Keira, Vivian and Alex. Her days were definitely brightened, each time they came to visit. She also enjoyed attending the many activities they were involved in.

Last winter Lois enjoyed time spent in Mesa AZ and was looking forward to returning this coming winter.

She was one of a kind. We all will miss her very, very much.

Lois is survived by sons Brian and Glenn (Leah) Vivian and Alex; daughter in-law Lynn (Stewart) Surman and Keira, sisters Carolyn (Duane) Binning; Susan (Marven) Schalin; sister-in-law Ella Hay and brother-in-law Gordon (Mavis) Leadbeater; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lois was predeceased by husband Walter and son Roy, her parents Stewart and Ella Hayes, and brother Ron Hayes.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Arrowwood Community Hall, with Sue MacDonald, D.M. officiating.

Interment Arrowwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, tributes in Lois’ memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #204, 2323 – 32 Ave. NE, Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3.
