Elder, Charles Alfred “Charlie” passed away at Calgary, Alberta January 28, 2010 at the age of 89 years.
Charlie was born May 28, 1920 at Olinville, Queens County, New Brunswick to Ernest and Margaret Elder. He attended Olinville school until grade eight when he went to work on a farm. Charlie was able to purchase his first car a 1930 Ford Sedan at the age of 16. He moved to St. Johns to work at a Barker grocery, stalking shelves and delivering groceries. In 1941 Charlie married Irene Simpson in Olinville. He went to work for W.H. Thorn Hardware and began as a apprentice at the Drug Store in 1947 where he continued to work until retiring at age 64. Charlie purchased many houses and sold them through the years. The last house he purchased was in Milford which he paid cash for and resided for six years, sold it and purchased a condo in Millagville where he resided until 2001. Irene passed away in November of the same year. Due to health problems, Charlie found himself in hospital, following an extended time of recovery. In 2003 he resided at the Villa and the following year moved to stay with a friend Patricia Scott who was his care giver. They moved to Granum, Alberta in October 2008, then to Calgary where he has resided since.
Charlie is survived by his wife Patricia Scott, a daughter Barbara Morley of Mississauga, ON, two sons David of Ottawa, ON, Edward (Nancy) in NB, sister Mabel Michleson of Westfield, NB and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Irene, Charlie was predeceased by a brother Leslie (Shirley), his parents and a son-in-law Al Morley.
Charlie was an avid reader and he enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He was a Chamber of Commerce member in Lancaster, NB.
Memorial service may be held at a later date in New Brunswick.

I know this is really late as a condolence, but as Grandma always told me “better late than never”. I wish I could have visited you sooner. The last time I saw you was to say goodbye to Grandma. I hope you, Grandma and Dad are all well up there. All 3 of you are missed greatly.
