We Remember

Brown, Murray Dodd, of Vulcan, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on February 8, 2016 at the age of 86 years.
Murray lived in Dutch Brook, Nova Scotia from 1929 to 1987. He worked at the Sydney Engineering Day Dock as a Pipe Fitter for 28 years before settling in Vulcan during the spring of 1987. Murray enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working on cars and trucks. On weekends, he would spend time camping with family, enjoying firecrackers and fireworks. His hobbies included playing cards, checkers and many jokes as well as down home comedy – Hughie & Allen

It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis Williams of Arrowwood announce her peaceful passing at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on January 29, 2016 at the age of 94 years.
Phyllis was born on August 1, 1921 and lived almost her entire life in the Arrowwood area. She took her schooling at Arrowwood, Olds School of Agriculture and Secretarial School in Calgary and worked at the latter until 1945.
Phyllis married Bert Williams on March 30, 1946 and it was here where they farmed and raised their children. They spent many great times at Lake McGregor and the Highwood

Love, Rita, of Vulcan, beloved wife of the Late Carson Love, passed away at Vulcan, January 17, 2016 after a brief illness at the age of 81 years.
Rita was the youngest of 11 children born December 15, 1934 at Mossleigh to John (Jack) and Ethel Martin.
Rita married Carson Love June 4th, 1955. They farmed northeast of Vulcan in the Berrywater district until Carson’s passing. In 1995 Rita moved to Vulcan and resided there until her death.
Rita is survived by her daughter Patricia (Terry) Shenher of Bonnyville, AB, her son Dan (Evelyn) Love of Taber; five grandchildren – Clayton and Megan

Speckeen, James Gordon, formerly of Vermillion, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Extendicare on December 22, 2015 at the age of 76 years. He has joined his wife Wanda and his daughter Angela.
A special thank you to the Extendicare for their compassion and their kindness.
Graveside Service and Interment will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11 am at the Vulcan Cemetery.

Healy, Marilyn (nee: Lahd), of Vulcan, beloved wife of Keith, peacefully passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on December 16, 2015 at the age of 79 years.
Marilyn was born on April 14, 1936 in Wetaskiwin, AB. She was the eldest of Jesse and Margaret Lahd and they lived at Battle Lake, AB at this time. The family then moved to Dawson Creek, BC where Jesse worked on the Alaskan Highway. Marilyn began her schooling there and continued her schooling in Calgary. Ray, Ethel Mae, of Vulcan, passed away at the Vulcan Extendicare on December 11, 2015 at the age of 84 years.
Mae is survived by her daughter Judy Landry of Vulcan, 1 granddaughter Patricia (Cody) Sheaves of Calgary and 1 great grandson Ryker Sheaves, 3 sisters Viola Lee, Claudia Burnett and Hazel Kelly, all of Kelowna, B.C.
She was predeceased by her parents Virgil McCullough and Margaret Boivin, a sister Gaynelle O’Neil and 1 brother Virgil Guy McCullough.

Haga, Ivan , of Vulcan, peacefully passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre October 18, 2015 at the age of 96 years.
Ivan was born on May 21, 1919 , third of nine children, to Albert and Rose Haga of Vulcan. He attended Derry School and after his schooling, worked at the O.K. Ranch at Crossfield for three years.
In 1940, Ivan met Eileen Clark and they were united in marriage on March 19, 1942 in Vulcan. Ivan served in the Royal Canadian Army from 1942 and received his discharge in 1945 and returned to the family farm four miles south

FODOR, Madeline, passed away peacefully at Vulcan Community Health Centre October 16, 2015 the age of 92 years.
Madeline Gal was born in Arad, Romania January 12, 1923 to George and Magdalena Gal who emigrated to Canada in 1924. Initially arriving in Montreal, the young family moved further west to smaller communities in southern Ontario, finally settling in Rodney on a small farm . Madeline was the eldest of six children. She moved to Windsor, ON as a young woman and worked in domestic duties and then in a dry cleaners business.
