AGATE, Florence 1917 – 2016

Florence Agate April 16, 1917 – March 23, 2016

Agate, Florence, of Vulcan, passed away at Vulcan Extendicare March 23, 2016 at the age of 98 years.

Florence was born in Glasgow, Montana, USA. She was very young when her parents decided to move to Alberta, who started homesteading in the Cluny area. As she got older, she helped her father with the farming and chores because her siblings were too young to help out. She attended the Cluny school until Grade 9 when she had to quit to go to work to help with the family finances.

Florence had a very interesting life and she always had stories to tell everyone who listened, right up to the end. Her mind was always very sharp and she seldom missed any details. During her last three years, she lived in Vulcan, AB which was very close to where Irene lives. Sunday was her favorite day of the week as Irene would have dinner with her, then they would attend church and sing Florence’s favorite songs. She always loved singing from the time she was a wee little girl and she was known to break out into song as the staff walked in her room to see why she rang the buzzer!

Mom is sadly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her. She is survived by her son Douglas and her daughter Irene. She also had 7+ grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She loved and cherished each and every one, even the ones who “became” a part of her little family. She was very proud of her family and never stopped telling each one how much they were loved.

Florence was predeceased by her husband Donald Frederick Agate and her daughter Judith Marie Agate, suddenly in September of 2013.

A Celebration of Florence’s Life will take place on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Central Church, located at 1920 – 13 Ave. NW, Calgary, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, Tributes in Florence’s memory can be made to A.D.R.A. Canada , 20 Robert Street West, Newcastle, ON, L1B 1C6 or visit their website at www.adra.ca.
