Burton, Frederick James passed away at Little Bow Continuing Care, Carmangay on March 31, 2010, four days after celebrating his 86th birthday. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Barbara Burton of De Winton, Alberta, with whom he lived, after immigrating to Canada, for the past 19 years, in England by his sister-in-law Mrs. Toni Berwick and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Doris in 1991 and his six siblings. Fred served his country in the British Armed Forces in World War II enduring campaigns in North Africa and the significant Battle of Monte Cassino, Italy. He also served during India’s independence from Great Britain. Fred enjoyed his soccer (Arsenal), the countryside and his dogs, Lucy, Spud & Edge. He never tired of looking at the Rocky Mountains, which he admired daily. He had an exceptional singing voice. He was very much loved in the community where he lived and by his seniors group at ADSP Okotoks Wellness Centre. He will leave a void in our lives but our memories will stay with us forever. You met with our approval. God Bless. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

I had the honour of meeting Fred around this time last year. I never walked away from an interaction with him without a smile on my face. I’ll never forget the beautiful songs he’d sing or the fantastic stories he’d tell. Always full of wit, he was never one to hold back a good joke.

    My condolences are with you.

I had the pleasure of spending time with Fred while volunteering in the ADSP at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre. He was such a gentle soul and he always had a smile for everyone and a song to sing!
Please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences at this time.
    Sincerely,
    Jennifer Chapman.
