BILLINGS, Hazel Mae – 1926-2010

Billings, Hazel Mae passed away May 17, 2010 at Calgary, Alberta at the age of 83 years.

Hazel was born July 8, 1926 at Vulcan, Alberta to William and Minnietta Francis. She attended Thigh Hill School until Grade 8. Hazel went to work for Phil and Al Lucas as a farm housekeeper. She married George Dennuse on June 30, 1945 at Vulcan. They lived in Warner, Raymond and Lethbridge River Bottom working on cattle and sugar beet farms. They moved to Vulcan and Hazel cleaned rooms and Dr. Tompkins’ office and worked at the Vulcan Hospital in Dietary. They moved to Delia and Hazel helped her husband operate the Hotel until it burnt down. She went on to work at Luke’s Café at Delia. Hazel divorced George but continued to work at Delia. She married Arnold Billings and moved to Hanna. Hazel worked at the Seniors Lodge in Dietary at Hanna. When Arnold died in 2002, she went to lived with family in Calgary.

Hazel volunteered at the Royal Canadian Legion #25 at Hanna and was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed curling, bingo, cards, cribbage, dice, game shows, cooking shows and ceramics. Hazel always loved doing crafts such as crocheting and enjoyed gardening. Hazel loved her family and babysat her grandchildren for years.

Hazel is survived by her children David Dennuse (Cheryl) of Salmon Arm, BC, Roy Dennuse of Calgary, Ellie (Gary) Gabrielson of Claresholm, nine grandchildren Tammy (Ian) McLean, Trina (Ted) Kennedy, Tara (Daryl) Radford, Gerrard (Julia) Dennuse, Renee (Greg) Woodman, Roxanne Bleu, Letasha Gabrielson, Stephanie Gabrielson and Ryan Gabrielson, ten great grandchildren Chelsey, Heather, Dylan, Chantel, Mark, Ryan, Benjamin, Paul, Andrew and Jessica, brother Cliff Francis of Fort Macleod, sister Charlotte (Mel) Marshall of Lethbridge, two brothers-in-law Clarence (Sonja) Billings, Gerald (Ann) Billings and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel was predeceased by her husband Arnold, her parents, brother John (Rose) Francis, sister Lil (Lyle) Hubbard and sister-in-law Angela “Toots” Francis.

Graveside service Friday, May 21, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Hanna Cemetery.

    dear grandma it has been 5 months since you have passed and i miss you oh so dear you where my insperation in life.we may have not gotten along at all times but i know that you meant well and where only trying to teach me the right ways and now that i realize i should have listened to you. i love you dearly and miss you lots i know you will allways be with me and never leave my side rest in peace sweet grandma for you are safe and in a good place.i love you forever and for allways as long as eternity shows you will be my grandma and in my heart.
