I remember Muriel and her older sister Mildred really well from when they came over to help do the housework and cooking one time when my parents were both sick as well as some of us siblings. I would have been about 8-9 at the time and they were living with their Dad, Glen Armstrong who was one of our neighbours. They brought with them a potato masher shaped like a cup that had sieves for the mashed potatoes to go through. I had never seen anything like that before and was completely fascinated! They also baked cookies which was a big hit with us kids.
Both sisters lived long lives. My heart and deepest condolences go out to the family.

Muriel and Leonard were our neighbours and friends for many, many years! I have the fondest memories of Muriel … a very hard working and dedicated farm wife and Mother who also had a real sense of humour! I remember her fabulous baking … those perfect buns and great cinnamon rolls and cookies could never be forgotten! She was a true believer in “old time hospitality”, and no matter how busy she was any caller was immediately invited in and graciously served coffee and sweets. She was dedicated to her community and be it a local funeral or a neighbour hosting a party Muriel would be found in the kitchen … preparing food, making coffee, and keeping everything running smoothly! She could be an activist too … and when she saw situations that needed attention she was writing letters and doing her best to make positive change. She and I used to joke that “if we two could run the world it would be a better place!” She also joked that she would be “the mouthpiece”, and I would have to be “the enforcer”! And we would laugh! My sympathy to Garry, Lisa, Kate, Ava, and all Muriel’s family at this sad time!
