Roy David Leadbeater passed away suddenly at Vulcan Community Health Centre January 31, 2009 at the age of 44 years.
Roy was born August 31, 1964 at Vulcan, Alberta the second son of Walter and Lois Leadbeater. He was raised on the family farm at Sholdice, Alberta and attended Arrowwood and Vulcan Schools. During school, Roy worked at the County of Vulcan repair shop for work experience, and after he graduated, he continued working for the County shop as their “tire guy”. Roy apprenticed for four years through SAIT in Calgary and received his Heavy Duty Diesel Technician certification in 1992. Roy met Lynn Bexte in 1987, they have been together for fifteen years and in 2004 they were married and have lived in Vulcan. He has continued to be employed with the County of Vulcan “pulling wrenches” for over the past 20 years.
Roy was a gentile, kind person who had a few close friends. He loved his daughter and his nieces and nephews and always had a box of smarties for them. Roy was an avid si-fi and war novels reader, a collector of die cast cars (Hot Wheels) and enjoyed making WWII models. He liked watching the stars and was very keen on astrology but most of all he loved taking his daughter out on his Harley motor cycle and riding with friends.
Beloved husband of Lynn, loving father of a daughter Keira, he is also survived by his mother Lois, mother and father-in-law Adolf (Dorothy) Bexte, brothers Brian, Glenn (Leah), brother-in-law Joe (Kathy) Bexte, two sisters-in-law Holly (Roger) Rush and Cindy (Dave Bruce) Haslam, aunts Carolyn (Duane) Binning, Susan (Marven) Schalin and Ella Hays, uncle Gordon (Mavis) Leadbeater, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Walter in 1984 and his uncle Ron in 2006.
Funeral service Wednesday February 4, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating.
Interment Vulcan Cemetery.
Honorary bearers Tim Quilty and Bill Schmeelke.
Casket bearers Les Groves, Dustin Jewett, Jeff McEachern, Alfie Heib, Trevor Goldhawk, Grant Schalin, Kevin Schalin and Andy Dixon.
