Lorraine Dyer Povey passed away on August 12, 2010 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 74 years.
Lorraine was born to Reginald and Arlie Dyer on May 21, 1936 in a sod hut on Uncle Bert’s land near Carlyle, Sask. She was raised on a dairy farm and attended school in Carlyle. Lorraine married Don Povey on October 10, 1953 in Dalesboro, Sask. The two farmed in Oxbow, Sask. for a short period, before Don became an elevator agent. During that time, Lorraine got her hairdressing license. The family moved numerous times to various locations in southern Saskatchewan, then moved to Alberta in 1967. Lorraine set up a hair salon in Mossleigh and Vulcan, Alberta. From there she worked at the Vulcan Legion and then she worked as a village administrator for the Village of Champion, Alberta until retiring. The rest of her lifespan was spent living in the County of Vulcan. Lorraine spent her last twelve years living with her youngest son Lyle on an acreage and then in Vulcan for one year. Lorraine’s hobbies and interests include gardening flower beds, watching daytime soap operas, sewing, knitting, matting, crocheting, hook rugs, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and her night cap of Crown Royal.
Lorraine leaves to cherish her memory three sons Rodney (Janice), Kelly (Vicki), Lyle (Glenna), six grandchildren Tyler (Donna), Chad (Stephanie), Coltan (Bethany), Jessica, Tamara and Krystal, two great grandchildren Gavin and Morgan, six siblings Kenneth (Effie), Joyce (Ben), Marvin (Lorraine), Ronald (Donna), Dorothy (Ross), and David (Evelyn) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering to celebrate Lorraine’s life was held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 2 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Vulcan.
