ASHBY-STOKES, Vera – 1927-2010

Ashby, Vera (Stokes) passed away peacefully July 3, 2010 at Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 83 years.

Mom was born July 1, 1927 at Retlaw, Alberta and shortly after moved to Lomond, Alberta where she grew up, married and raised her family of three boys. She also worked at the Lomond School as a teacher’s aide, librarian and secretary. In her retirement, she moved to St. Albert, then Chemainus and finally to Lethbridge. Throughout her life, Mom enjoyed volunteering, gardening, walking, reading and traveling. In her volunteer work with groups such as the Goodwill Service Club of Lomond and the Chemainus Tourism Association, she met many wonderful people. She made many good friends wherever she lived. It seemed every Christmas she sent and received a hundred Christmas cards! Mom took pride in her children, grandchildren and her dear friends. She will be missed.

Mom is survived by her sons Charlie, Bob and Ted (Patti), her grandchildren Devin, Ben and Sarah and her brother Stan.

She was predeceased by her father and mother, Carl and Mary Rose Susinski, her brother Greg and her husbands Pete Stokes and Roy Ashby.

Funeral service Friday, July 9, 2010 at 1:30 pm at the Lomond Bethany Lutheran Church with Reverend Gordon Cranch officiating.

Private family interment Lomond Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to the Lomond Cemetery Restoration Committee, c/o Box 268, Lomond, Alberta T0L 1G0.

    My sympathy to all the Stokes family on Vera’s passing. She was a lovely lady who will be remembered for her sense of fashion, her friendliness, and her work in the community. She will be missed. Marvin Maronda of Lomond

    I was so saddened to hear of Vera’s passing. Although we had lost touch with each other, I loved her dearly. I will always remember the times we had together. She will be missed by many who’s lives were touched by her. My heart goes out to all her family and friends. May fond memories keep her in your hearts, and carry you through this sad time.
