Granlin, Lea Marie, beloved wife of the late Elwood Granlin, passed away January 3, 2010 at Vulcan, Alberta at the age of 90 years.
Marie Granlin was born August 11, 1919 at Champion, Alberta to Harold and Ada Matlock. She attended school in Champion and Normal School in Calgary. Marie taught for two years at Sanderson School and five years at Carmangay School. She moved to Calgary to work as a secretary and then moved to Seattle, Washington. Marie had known Elwood Granlin as a child for they were neighbors. They met again in Seattle and were married October 26, 1963. She moved with Elwood to the farm at Champion. In 1982 they moved into Champion and resided there until Elwood’s passing in 2001. Marie moved into Peter Dawson Lodge in 2005 and has resided there since.
Elwood was the love of her life and Marie loved their family times together. She enjoyed doing needle work, oil painting and crafts, playing the piano and visiting family and friends. Marie also loved traveling and working in her flower garden. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and the St. Mary’s Altar Society.
Loving stepmother of son LaVerne (Kathy), daughter Elaine (Garth) Enerson, six granddaughters Pamela Enerson, Julie (Bart) Matlock, Sandi O’Reilly, Diane Allred, Suzanne (Scott) Mitchell and Zona (Robert) Culp, sixteen great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law Sue Berger and Betty Matlock, numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Elwood, two brothers Wilbur and Gerald (Alice) Matlock, grandson Kenneth, great granddaughter Jennifer, sister-in-law Gertrude Smith and her parents.
Friends are invited to meet for prayers at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church Tuesday January 5, 2010 at 7:30 pm.
Funeral Mass Wednesday January 6, 2010 at 11 am also at St. Andrew’s with Rev. Fr. Philip Lee Celebrant.
Inurnment at Champion Cemetery at a later date.
