Wickstrom, Betty passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on November 12, 2009 at the age of 81 years.
Betty was born in Calgary on May 26, 1928, the only daughter and third child of Donald and Hazel Smith. She grew up in the Reid Hill and Berrywater districts and attended Marshall, Berrywater and Vulcan schools. Upon graduation, Betty moved to Calgary and was employed by United Grain Growers as a comptometer operator for four years. It was during this time that Betty met Stan Wickstrom and they were married on June 25, 1949 at the Church of Christ in Vulcan. Following a winter spent in Vancouver, Stan and Betty moved to the Smith farm in 1950. They built their home nearby, raised their children and farmed with Betty’s family. Betty was a strong member of the Candlelight Ladies Circle and the Berrywater Women of Unifarm. In 1981 Stan and Betty moved to Vulcan and enjoyed semi retirement doing some traveling yet remained very involved in the farm.
Remembering her fondly are her daughter Cheryl (Lorne) Mueller and their children Carleen (Dean) Gorr, Nadine (Cam) Layden and Colin (Angie) Mueller; her son Ron (Trina) Wickstrom and their children Tiana (Ross) Oldfield and Kyle (Kelly) Wickstrom; five great grandsons Ryler Gorr, Nolan and Logan Layden, Cole and Trey Mueller, two sisters-in-law Ruth Smith and Bea Wickstrom and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Stan in 2000, her parents and three brothers Douglas, Alan and Russell.
Funeral Service Monday, November 16, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Church of Christ at Vulcan with Reverend Doug Barrie officiating
Casket bearers Carleen and Dean Gorr, Nadine and Cam Layden, Colin and Angie Mueller, Tiana and Ross Oldfield, Kyle and Kelly Wickstrom.
Interment Vulcan Cemetery.
