Ruby Alice Zuehlke (nee: Verbaan), of Vulcan, Alberta passed away December 5, 2002 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 78 years.
Ruby was born January 10, 1924 at Red Jacket, Saskatchewan to Louis and Susan Verbaan. She grew up on a farm at Red Jacket, and attended school there until grade nine. After quitting school she worked doing farmwork and housekeeping around the local community. In 1944 she moved to Picture Butte where she worked in the Sugar Factory. Ruby met Otto Zuehlke and they were married on January 31, 1946. From Picture Butte they lived in several small communities in Southern Alberta where they raised six of their seven children. In 1962 they moved to Calgary where the youngest daughter was born. Ruby was a stay at home mom, raising the family and enjoyed having an open door policy to family and friends. In 1977 Ruby and Otto moved to Vulcan and after Otto retired they enjoyed camping and fishing around Southern Alberta. Ruby has continued to reside in Vulcan ever since.
Ruby loved her family and sharing time with them. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, taking them fishing and camping. She also enjoyed embroidery work and fixing the world over a cup of coffee and a cigarette.
Loving mother of four daughters Marion (Bob) Brown of Coombs, B.C., Edna Zuehlke , Terry (Dave) Lanktree all of Vulcan, Laura (Dave) Nolan of Lomond, three sons Ken (Donnalee) of High River, Ron of Cranbrook, B.C. , David (Wendy) of Parksville, B.C, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, six sisters, Vera (Al) Elliott of Summerland, B.C., Emily (Hoss) Morrison of Lethbridge, Kay Verbaan, Ethel Verbaan, Margaret (Keith) Smith all of Mooseman, Saskatchewan, Iris Verbaan of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, one brother Bill (Shawn) Verbaan of Calgary, numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Otto, a sister Nellie (Fred) Siefert, a grandson Kent Zuehlke and her parents.
Graveside Service Tuesday December 10, 2002 at 1 P.M. at the Vulcan Cemetery with Lee Spice officiating.
Casket bearers Bob Shearer, Ryan Shearer, Harry Harder, Kurtis Harder, Ross Zuehlke and Russell Zuehlke.
