The family of Harvey Yarn of Vulcan, are saddened to announce his passing on November 30, 2024 at the age of 78 years.
Harvey was born May 16, 1946 at English Harbor West, Newfoundland. The Yarn family moved from Nfld. to Halifax N.S. in the early 1950’s where Harvey attended school. At the ripe old age of 15, he moved to Ontario to work on the lake boats for 3 or 4 years. Upon his return to Halifax, he became a journeyman sheet metal worker.
In 1978 he left Halifax for western Canada, living and working in Calgary, Bragg Creek and Cochrane, AB. In the early 1980’s he moved to Ross River, Yukon for a few years to work but mostly to hunt and fish. This was followed by time spent in Vancouver, B.C., Toronto and Huntsville, ON. In 1999 Harvey returned to Calgary and started his business “New West Contractors”, which he maintained until his illness. Preferring life in smaller communities he purchased and remodeled homes in Turner Valley, Nanton and finally Vulcan, AB.
Harvey is survived by three sisters – Mable Weagle (Alfred) of Halifax N.S., Rhona Pitcher of Halifax N.S., and Sharon Benson (Don) of Berwick N.S. , one brother Bill Yarn (Beverley) of Calgary, AB. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harvey and May (Chapman) Yarn.
At Harvey’s request, there will not be a formal service. A family Inurnment will take place at the Vulcan Cemetery, Vulcan, AB.
