WHITESIDE, Linda Diane  1942 – 2004

Linda Diane Whiteside of Vulcan passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on July 10, 2004 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 62 years.

Linda was born January 30, 1942 at Vulcan to Bruce and Gwen McKay. She attended Reid Hill school through grade eight and finished senior high in Vulcan. Linda then attended the University of Alberta and the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing. She returned to Vulcan following her marriage to Cody Alexander Whiteside in the fall of 1961. Together they lived on the Ed Armey farm, eight miles north and one mile west of town and, eventually, they bought the farm and resided there for nine years. In April of 1970 they purchased a house in Vulcan, but continued to farm. After the death of Linda’s father and her mother moving to Calgary, they purchased her parents home in Vulcan, where she has resided since.

Linda was a women of many talents. She was an excellent pianist, a wonderful homemaker and a dedicated member of her community and church. Linda was a member of the Vulcan Lionettes’ Club, the Alberta Flying Farmers, the Vulcan United Church, where she played piano for several years, and a school trustee for the Town of Vulcan.

Linda was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She cherished her family and all their special times together. She enjoyed family ski trips, celebrations and holidays. This past Christmas the entire family spent a lovely time holidaying in Cancun.

Beloved wife of husband Cody of Vulcan, daughter Susan (Jeff) Jones of Claresholm, a son Michael (Vicki) Whiteside of Vulcan, her grandchildren Jodi and James Whiteside of Vulcan, Abigail and Aidan Jones of Claresholm, her mother Gwen Coskey of Vulcan, sister Gerry (Ron) Northcott, a brother Gordon (Marlene) McKay, sister-in-law Eloise Reid-Bicknell all of Calgary, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Linda was predeceased by her father Bruce McKay.

Memorial service Wednesday July 14, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the Vulcan United Church with Rev. Lee Spice officiating.

Cremation.

In lieu of flowers tribute’s in Linda’s memory could be made to either the Vulcan Community Health Centre Box 299 Vulcan, Alberta T0L 2B0 or the Vulcan United Church Box 275 Vulcan, Alberta T0L 2BO.
