Mr. Herbert (Herb) Casey Way, a former Champion resident, died Friday, March 23, 1990 at the Vulcan General Hospital at the age of 82.
Herb was born at Scott, Sask. on March 24, 1907. He was a farmer, and a commercial fisherman during the winter, in the North Battleford area until his retirement. In 1965 he moved to the Shaughnessy area of southern Alberta to be closer to his brother. He then moved to Carmangay in 1976 and to Champion in 1980. In the summer of 1989, he became a resident of Vulcan Extendicare.
Herb loved the great outdoors and particularly enjoyed camping and fishing from his truck and camper. He was a strong-willed man with a sense of humor and he was also very quick with numbers. Herb enjoyed spending time alone, but he always made time for special family occasions. He kept his life simple and he loved to tell stories of his fishing experiences. He was also very proud of the coins he had collected over the years.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Way of Edmonton and Mrs. Rose Way of Shaughnessy, as well as five nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Casey and his mother Eunice Way; two brothers, Austin in 1975 and Clarence in 1989.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Vulcan Extendicare with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating. Interment followed at Vulcan Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Steiner, Robert Small, Vernon Jordan and Stan Wickstrom.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations would be appreciated to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4750, Stn. C., Calgary, T2T 5W4.
