WINIFRED LUCINDA ‘WINNIE” WASER, (nee: MONNER) PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE, DECEMBER 8, 1997 AT THE AGE OF 89 YEARS.
WINNIE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 20, 1908 IN PORTLAND, OREGON. IN 1914 HER FAMILY EMMIGRATED TO CANADA, AND THEY SETTLED IN THE MILO AREA. WINNIE RECEIVED HER EARLY SCHOOLING AT PIONEER, GIFFEN AND MILO.
SHE WAS THE ELDEST DAUGHTER AND BECAME MOTHER’S HELPER AT AN EARLY
AGE, HELPING RAISE HER YOUNGER SIBLINGS. WINNIE ATTENDED AGRICULTURE
COLLEGE IN CLARESHOLM FROM I928 TO I930 WHERE SHE BECAME AN EXCELLENT SEAMSTRESS AND COOK. DURING THE LATE TWENTY’S AND EARLY THIRTIES SHE BECAME INVOLVED WITH THE JUNIOR UNITED FARMERS ASSOCIATION, AT BOTH THE LOCAL AND PROVINCIAL BOARD LEVEL.
IN I935 SHE MOVED TO SALEM, OREGON, TO HELP HER AUNT RUN A BOARDING HOUSE WHERE SHE MET HOLCOMBE WASER. THEY WERE MARRIED JUNE 14, 1937 AND FOR MANY YEARS THEY LIVED IN SEVERAL PARTS OF THE UNITED STATES. HOLCOMBE PASSED AWAY IN 1966 AND WINNIE REMAINED IN SABASTIPOL. SHE MOVED TO MILO IN 1975 AND ONCE AGAIN BECAME THE CARE GIVER LOOKING AFTER HER MOTHER UNTIL HER PASSING IN 1977. WINNIE CONTINUED TO LIVE IN MILO UNTIL THE SUMMER OF 1997 WHEN SHE MOVED INTO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE IN VULCAN WHERE SHE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
WINNIE LOVED SPENDING TIME WITH HER NIECES, NEPHEWS, GRAND NIECES, NEPHEWS AND HER MANY FRIENDS. SHE ENJOYED DISCUSSING POLITICS, CURRENT AND WORLD AFFAIRS. SHE WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE SNAKE VALLEY DROP-IN CENTRE WHERE SHE ENJOYED PLAYING CARDS, POT LUCKS AND BIRTHDAY PARTIES.
WINNIE IS SURVIVED BY A BROTHER BOB (MURIEL) MONNER OF MILO AND A SISTER FRAN (ROSS) BERTRAND OF LETHBRIDGE, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
SHE WAS PREDECEASED BY HER HUSBAND HOLCOMBE IN 1966, PARENTS MIKE AND MYRTLE MONNER, THREE BROTHERS LAWRENCE, WILBUR AND WAYNE.
SERVICES WILL BE HELD MONDAY DECEMBER 15, 1997 AT 1:30 P.M. AT MILO COMMUNITY HALL WITH DON HOLMES L.M. OFFICIATING.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, TRIBUTES IN MEMORY OF WINNIE COULD BE MADE TO THE
SNAKE VALLEY DROP IN CENTRE, MILO, ALBERTA TOL ILO.
