Grace Edna Uhl passed away September 20, 2008 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 84 years.
Edna was born July 24, 1924 on the family farm in the Whitkow district northeast of North Battleford, Saskatchewan to Albert Arthur and Grace Alma Whibley. She attended Redfield School until Grade 10 then set out to explore the world. At the age of 16 Edna went to Ontario to visit relatives and ended up staying for seven years. While she was in Ontario, Edna worked at a bomb factory for a short while. When she was in her early twenties, Edna moved to Vancouver to stay with a good friend and worked as a Red Cross nurse. Edna met David Uhl in Vancouver in 1950 and they were married on April 24, 1954. They remained in Vancouver for the next four years. In 1959 the Uhl family moved from Vancouver to Kimberly. In 1961 they moved from Kimberly to Redfield then Medicine Hat. In 1962 they moved from Medicine Hat to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan where they stayed for five years. In 1967 they moved to Vulcan, and except for a short moved to Pincher Creek in 1976, Vulcan remained home. Edna was homemaker while her children were young and worked as a care aide at Vulcan Extendicare for ten years.
Edna belonged to the Vulcan United Church. She enjoyed looking after her flower garden, square dancing and bowling. Edna especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Loving mother of daughter Linda (Ken) Holland, son Jeffrey (Marilyn), two grand daughters Wanda (Jeff) Redel, Jennifer Uhl all from Calgary, twin brother Albert (Ethel) Whibley of Coombs, BC, sister Winnie (Charlie) Watkinson of Parry Sound, Ontario and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edna was predeceased by her husband David, her parents, brother Ben Whibley, sister Irene Whibley, two grandchildren Chad Holland and Jacqueline Uhl and a very special friend Art Leoni.
Funeral service Friday, September 26, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald DM officiating.
Casket bearers Pat Schneider, Deb Leoffler, Brenda Scattergood, Heather Goldhawk, Shirley Spanke and Tom Grant.
Interment Vulcan Cemetery.
