HALDOR THOV THOMPSON PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AT THIS HOME IN MILO ON AUGUST 26, 1991.
BORN AT MILO ON OCTOBER 6, 1919, HALDOR WAS THE YOUNGEST OF FIVE CHILDREN BORN TO THORE AND RAGNHILD THOMPSON. HAL’S MOTHER PASSED AWAY BEFORE HE WAS A YEAR OLD SO A SPECIAL BOND DEVELOPED BETWEEN HIM AND HIS FATHER.
HE ATTENDED LAKE MCGREGOR SCHOOL UNTIL THE FAMILY MOVED TO VICTORIA, BC WHERE HE COMPLETED HIS SCHOOLING. HE RETURNED WITH HIS FATHER TO THE HOMESTEAD IN THE MILO AREA. HE SERVED IN THE NAVY DURING WORLD WAR II AND ON RETURNING IN 1945, HE PURCHASED MORE LAND AND CONTINUED FARMING.
A FRIEND OF YOUNG AND OLD, HALDOR ALWAYS HAD TIME FOR A JOKE AND A VISIT. HE LOVED TO GIVE HIS FRIENDS NICKNAMES, RE-TIE BOWS, AND WAS AN EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD DANCER.
IN 1948, HE MARRIED HELEN PRENTICE AND THEY CONTINUED FARMING UNTIL THEY SOLD THE FARM IN 1967. HE SHARED A SPECIAL LOVE WITH HIS ONLY CHILD, ELLEN.
HALDOR WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE I. O. ODDFELLOWS MILO LODGE, A MEMBER OF THE B.P.O. ELKS LODGE #121 VULCAN AND A LIFETIME MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, BRANCH #21 VULCAN.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING WIFE HELEN OF MILO, HIS DAUGHTER ELLEN OF CALGARY, TWO SISTERS HILDA RUSSELL OF OLDS AND RAGNA SOLHEIM OF SOOKE, BC, MANY NIECES, NEPHEWS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS AND HIS SISTERS DORA GERDING AND OLGA OAKES.
FUNERAL SERVICES THURSDAY, AUGUST 29, 1991 AT 11 AM AT HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, MILO WITH PASTOR ALF GRANBERG OFFICIATING. INTERMENT IN FAMILY PLOT, MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, CALGARY, AB AT 2:30 PM.
