THARLE, ALBERT HOWARD, FORMERLY OF MOSSLEIGH, ALBERTA, PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN, ALBERTA MAY 5, 1995 AT THE AGE OF 86 YEARS.
HOWARD WAS BORN JANUARY 3, 1909 AT MEDICINE HAT, ALBERTA. HE HAS ALWAYS LIVED ON HIS FATHER’S HOMESTEAD. HE ATTENDED SUNSET VALLEY SCHOOL. THROUGH SCHOOL FAIRS, HOWARD WON A YEAR’S TUITION AND ATTENDED THE SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE AT CLARESHOLM FOR THE TERM I924-25. HE WOULD HAVE ATTENDED ANOTHER TERM BUT SUDDENLY BECAME VERY ILL WHEN HIS APPENDIX RUPTURED WHILE STANDING ON THE HARROWS DRIVING A TEAM IN THE FIELD. FOLLOWING SURGERY IN CALGARY HE RETURNED TO THE FARM AND CONTINUED HELPING HIS FATHER. HE WAS FARMING DURING THE CHANGE OVER FROM HORSES TO MACHINERY FROM THE MODEL “T”, MODEL “A” CARS AND TO BETTER TRUCKS AND TRACTORS.
IN NOVEMBER OF 1938, HE MARRIED CLARA GOLD OF VULCAN WHO WAS TEACHING AT SUNSET VALLEY SCHOOL AT THE TIME. THEY CONTINUED TO FARM, BEGINNING WITH PIGS THEN COWS SELLING THE CREAM, BUTTER AND EGGS AND GRADUALLY BUILDING A FULLY MIXED FARMING OPERATION. THEY CONTINUED TO FARM UNTIL RETIRING IN 1975, THEY CONTINUED TO LIVE ON THE FARM AND HOWARD KEPT A KEEN INTEREST IN THE LAND UNTIL MOVING TO EXTENDICARE IN THE FALL OF 1993, WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
HOWARD LOVED HIS FAMILY AND EXTENDED FAMILY, INCLUDING TWO YOUNG BROTHERS TED RUMMEL AND IAN FISCHER THAT CAME TO LIVE WITH THEM IN THE FORTIES AND CONTINUED TO BE PART OF HIS LIFE. HE WORKED WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT INTRODUCED THE FIRST 4-H BEEF CLUB IN THE COUNTY OF VULCAN AND CONTINUED TO BE INVOLVED WITH 4-H, FIRST AS AN ORGANIZER, THEN AS A LEADER AND AN ASSISTANT LEADER AT MOSSLEIGH FOR TWENTY YEARS. HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE ARROWWOOD FRIENDSHIP CLUB AND THE MOSSLEIGH UNITED CHURCH, WHERE HE WAS A STEWARD AND SECRETARY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. HE SERVED AS A SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER FOR ONE YEAR.

CLARA THARLE OF VULCAN, LOVING FATHER A DAUGHTER HELEN (LES) McMULLEN OF VULCAN, A SON DAVID (BARB) THARLE OF ARDMORE, ALBERTA, ELAINE FISCHER OF CALGARY, TED (ELINOR) RUMMEL OF CAMPBELL RIVER, EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN, FIVE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN A SISTER-IN-LAW FLORENCE BUSH OF CRESTON, A NEPHEW DR. ROY (AMY) BUSH AND A GREAT NIECE KRISTEN BUSH OF SACKVILLE, N.B.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FATHER ALBERT, MOTHER JEANNIE AND IAN FISCHER.
FUNERAL SERVICE AT MOSSLEIGH COMMUNITY HALL ON TUESDAY MAY 9, 1995 AT 1 P.M. WITH HORACE BHUPSINGH L.M. OFFICIATING.
INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY AT 3:45 P.M.
