MILTON LEWIS OF VULCAN, ALBERTA PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN EXTENDICARE FEBRUARY 9, 2001 AT THE AGE OF 86 YEARS.
MILTON WAS BORN ONE OF TEN CHILDREN ON JULY 15, 1914 AT TRAVERS, ALBERTA TO ALFRED AND BLANCHE LEWIS. HE GREW UP ON THE FAMILY FARM IN THE TRAVERS AREA AND ATTENDED SCHOOL THERE. AT A YOUNG AGE MILTON LEFT HOME AND WORKED AROUND THE ATHABASKA AREA. HE JOINED THE CANADIAN ARMY IN 1939 AND SERVED OVERSEAS. THERE HE MET AND MARRIED HIS WIFE JOAN WADDINGTON AT SUSSEX, ENGLAND IN JUNE OF 1943. THEY RETURNED IN 1946 AND MILTON BEGAN WORKING AT

HENRY GEORGE “HANK” BORCHERS, PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME IN MILO, ALBERTA FEBRUARY 5, 2001 AT THE AGE OF 73 YEARS.
HANK WAS BORN JANUARY 19, 1928 AT CALLAWAY, MINNESOTA ONE OF TEN CHILDREN OF PETER AND FRANCES BORCHERS. THE FAMILY MOVED TO SCANDIA IN NOVEMBER 1930 WHERE HANK ATTENDED SCHOOL. HE LOVED TO PLAY BASEBALL AND HOCKEY AND WAS AN EXCELLENT ATHLETE. HANK BEGAN WORKING WITH HIS FATHER ON THE FARM. HE CUSTOM COMBINED FOR A FEW YEARS AND LATER ON CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATING HEAVY EQUIPMENT. IN 1959 HE BEGAN WORKING ON THE PIPELINE WHICH HE CONTINUED TO DO
CRAIG, Elizabeth “Betty” 1920 – 2001
ELIZABETH, CRAIG “BETTY” WAS BORN FEBRUARY 1, 1920 AT VULCAN, ALBERT TO ALBERT AND MOLLY CRAIG WHO WAS WORKING AS THE C.P.R. AGENT AT THE TIME HEAR. ELIZABETH ATTENDED SCHOOL IN VULCAN. SHE MARRIED LEWIS ROSS ROSKIN AND TOGETHER HAD TWO CHILDREN ROBIN AND CRAIG. ELIZABETH PASSED AWAY FEBRUARY 3, 2001 AT VICTORIA, BC. WHERE SHE HAS RESIDED FOR THE PAST YEARS.
GRAVE SIDE SERVICE WAS HELD AT VULCAN CEMETERY FEBRUARY 9, 2001 AT 4 P.M. WITH REV. LORRAINE POWELL OFFICIATING.

ELWOOD BAGSTAD GRANLIN, OF CHAMPION, DIED SUDDENLY FEBRUARY 3, 2001 AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE.
ELWOOD WAS BORN JUNE 28, 1911 AT CLARESHOLM, ALBERTA TO INGVOLD AND TILLIE GRANLIN. HE ATTENDED CHAMPION SCHOOL. IN 1918 HIS MOTHER PASSED AWAY AND HE REMAINED WITH HIS FATHER AND HIS SISTER GERTRUDE WENT TO LIVE WITH HIS AUNT IN STAVELY. WHILE IN SCHOOL HE USED TO SET UP MODEL T FORD CARS FOR HIS UNCLE MARVIN WHO OWNED THE FORD GARAGE IN CHAMPION. LATER HE HAULED GRAVEL WHEN THE ORIGINAL HIGHWAY 23 WAS BEING BUILT NORTH OF CHAMPION. HELEN CLAIRE ROBERTSON, nee: KINGSMITH OF HIGH RIVER, FORMERLY OF MILO, PASSED AWAY JANUARY 21, 2001 AT HIGH RIVER HOSPITAL AT THE AGE OF 75 YEARS.
HELEN WAS BORN APRIL 11,1925 AT VULCAN TO GEORGE AND CLARA KINGSMITH. SHE ATTENDED QUEENSTOWN SCHOOL. IN 1939 SHE MARRIED ROBERT BROWN IN CALGARY AND THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN SHEILA AND DALE. AFTER A SHORT TIME THEY SEPARATED. IN 1945 HELEN AND HER CHILDREN MET CAMERON ROBERTSON AND THEY BEGAN THEIR LIVES TOGETHER. THEY LIVED ON THE FAMILY FARM SOUTH WEST OF QUEENSTOWN AND HAD SIX MORE CHILDREN. TOGETHER THEY FARMED

JEANNETTE HUNTLEY SINCLAIR, (nee:SMITH), AGED 84 YEARS OF STRATHMORE, FORMERLY OF VULCAN WAS CALLED HOME TO HER LORD AND SAVIOR JANUARY18, 2001 IN THE PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT AT STRATHMORE & DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
JEANNETTE WAS BORN AUGUST 10, 1916 AT OKOTOKS, ALBERTA. THE FAMILY MOVED TO A FARM IN THE MAYVIEW DISTRICT EAST OF VULCAN WHERE JEANNETTE WAS RAISED. HER FIRST JOB TOOK HER TO CALGARY, THEN SHE WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME IN EDMONTON, THEN TO VANCOUVER. IN 1940 JEANNETTE WORKED AS A CIVILIAN EMPLOYEE WITH THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE DEPOT. FOLLOWING THE WAR SHE COMPLETED A NURSING PROGRAM AT

MAEBELLE ELIZABETH “MAY” McCULLOUGH, OF COALDALE, FORMERLY OF VULCAN, PASSED AWAY JANUARY 16, 2001 AT LETHBRIDGE REGIONAL HOSPITAL AT THE AGE OF 60 YEARS.
MAY WAS BORN APRIL 15, 1940 AT YORK, ONTARIO TO GEORGE “BILL” AND MARGARET “EMILY” SKEFFINGTON. AT THE AGE OF EIGHT MONTHS SHE WAS PLACED IN FOSTER CARE, HER LAST FOSTER FAMILY WAS THE PATTERSON’S IN TORONTO, WHERE SHE ATTENDED SCHOOL. WHILE WITH THE PATTERSON’S AT THE AGE OF ELEVEN, MAY WAS STRUCK WITH RHEUMATIC FEVER AND RECOVERED WHILE IN THE SICK CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN TORONTO. VERNA WAS BORN AUGUST 19, 1928 IN ARMADA, ALBERTA TO JOHN AND RUTH JOHNSON. RUTH PASSED AWAY IN DECEMBER THE SAME YEAR. VERNA WAS RAISED BY HER GRANDPARENTS CHARLES AND ELIZABETH GAY WHO CAME OUT WEST FROM SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. AND FOUR UNCLES. SHE ATTENDED SCHOOL IN VULCAN WHERE SHE LIVED FROM 1936 TO1945. JAMES FREDRICK “JIM” PRENTICE , OF MILO PASSED AWAY DECEMBER 21, 2000 AT HIGH RIVER HOSPITAL.
JIM WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 27, 1920 AT BASSANO, ALBERTA TO GEORGE AND FREDA (nee; ROSEEN) PRENTICE. HE WAS RAISED AND LIVED ALL OF HIS LIFE IN THE MAJORVILLE AREA; HE ATTENDED SCHOOL AT LIBERTY AND MILO. HOME TO JIM WAS ALWAYS THE HOUSE ON THE HOME QUARTER. AT THE AGE OF NINETEEN HIS FATHER PASSED AWAY AND JIM TOOK OVER THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF RUNNING THE FAMILY FARM.
