Ronald Stewart “Ron” Hayes of Calgary passed away July 24, 2006 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital at Calgary at the age of 70 years.
Ron was born on October 29, 1935 at Arrowwood, Alberta. He attended school at Arrowwood and took piano lessons for many years. Grade 12 was completed at Bow Valley Central in Cluny. Ron attended U of A in Edmonton, receiving a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He then joined the firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Calgary where he received his Chartered Accountant Designation. ANDERSON, Annie Bell 1905 – 2006
Annie Bell Anderson (nee Mellow) of Vulcan, Alberta passed away July 24, 2006 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 102 years.
Annie was born November 26, 1905 at Essex County, Ontario to William and Mary Mellow. The family moved to Alberta and Annie attended school at Turin. In 1933 she married Bill Anderson. They moved to Champion in 1952 and bought a farm. In 1959 they sold the farm and bought land at Vulcan. Annie and Bill retired in 1971 and moved into town. SMITH, Earl A. 1927 – 2006
Earl A. Smith from the Champion/Carmangay passed away July 23, 2006 at the age of 79 years. He spent his entire life farming and ranching and was very involved with his family and his community.
Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife of Irene and his children Terry (Donna) , Ladell (Deb), Darell (Linda), Lyle (Eleanor), Brent (Judy), Sharleen (Doug) and Kevin (Teresa) of Champion. He is also survived by fifteen grandchilden, a great granddaughter, brother Lorne (Virginia) Smith, sisters Arvilla (DeCon) Pitcher and Sharon (Chad) Howells, and sisters-in-law Ida Greene and Enid Pieschel.

MATLOCK, Marion 1918 – 2006
Marion Matlock, formerly of Champion, Alberta passed away June 20, 2006 at the Willow Creek Auxiliary Care Centre, Claresholm, Alberta at the age of 87 years.
Marion was born September 21, 1918 at Calgary, Alberta to Harold and Ula Tindall. She attended Yale School, Victoria High School in Edmonton and Champion High School. Marion worked for various families in the Champion area after finishing school. She met Martin Matlock in 1939 and they were married on March 21, 1942 in Calgary. They resided in the Champion and operated a service station and bulk fuel outlet. Martin died in 1992. Marion continued
CAMPBELL, Albert William “Bill” 1913 – 2006
Albert William “Bill” Campbell, formerly of Mossleigh, Alberta passed away June 1, 2006 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 93 years.
Bill was born March 16, 1913 at Gleichen, Alberta to Ernie and Christina Campbell. He attended Sunset Valley and Arrowwood schools and helped out on the family farm at Mossleigh. In 1936 Bill bought his own land and began farming. He married Carolyn Hay in 1940. They continued to farm both livestock and grain and raise their family.

LONG, Reta Beatrice 1907 – 2006
Reta Beatrice Long (nee Beaubier) passed away peacefully on May 8, 2006, at the age of 99 years.
Reta was born on April 30, 1907 at Hoytville, Michigan, USA and moved to Alberta in November 1907. She moved to the Champion district where she met and married John Long and raised their family. In the 50’s they decided to leave the cold of Alberta and began traveling to Mesa, Arizona, They traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada. Reta moved to Calgary in 1981 where she resided until her passing.
Reta was a member of the Champion Order of the Eastern Star
JOHNSON, Melvin Arthur 1914 – 2006
Melvin Arthur Johnson of Vulcan, Alberta passed away on April 23, 2006 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 91 years.
Melvin was born on July 8, 1914 at the farm at Queenstown, Alberta to Aleck and Margit Johnson. Melvin loved going to the horse races and visiting over a cup of coffee.
Melvin is survived by his sister Clara Nelson of Vulcan, sister-in-law Rosemary Johnson of Victoria as well as numerous nieces and nephews and some very special friends.

WEBB, Dorothy May 1920 – 2006
Dorothy May Webb passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on April 7, 2006 at Vulcan Extendicare.
May was born August 1, 1920 at Diamond City, Alberta. She was raised on the family farm by her parents Flora and Harry Orcutt along with her brother Lloyd and sister Pearl. After completing school May attend business college. May was employed by Model Dairies in Calgary where she met Orvel Lawrence Webb, her beloved husband of 56 years. They were married July 28, 1945. May and Orvel had two daughters born in Calgary.
SANDERSON, Peter William “Pete” 1950 – 2006
Peter William “Pete” Sanderson formerly of Champion, Alberta passed away suddenly March 29, 2006 at the family farm east of Champion, Alberta at the age of 55 years.
Pete was born November 18, 1950 at Calgary, Alberta to Jack and Helen Sanderson. He started school in 1957 at Champion and attended high school in Vulcan until Grade 11. Pete learned how to drive a grain truck at the age of 9 by his dad and worked full time on the farm after leaving high school. Pete loved to water ski in the summer when he was younger and
HILL, Margaret Catherine 1919 – 2006
Margaret Catherine Hill passed away at Vulcan Extendicare Alberta on March 26, 2006 at the age of 86 years.
Margaret, the youngest daughter of eight children of Nels and Christina Asplund, was born May 31, 1919 on the family farm near Monarch, Alberta.
She received her education at Monarch and at a early age began working as a house maid for the Fred Hutchings family at Marquis farm near Nobelford. It was there that she met Robert Hill and they married October 3, 1938. Margaret and Bob farmed north of Vulcan in the Eastway district, where their son Duane continues to farm.
