VIOLET “VI” STULBERG OF VULCAN, ALBERTA PASSED AWAY MAY 20, 2000 AT THE VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE AT THE AGE OF 73 YEARS.
VI WAS BORN MARCH 6, 1927 AT LAURENCE KIRK SCOTLAND TO CUMMIN AND ALICE MATHIESON. SHE MOVED WITH HER FAMILY TO COLD CREEK COLONY SASKATCHEWAN IN 1930. SHE RECEIVED HER EARLY SCHOOLING AT COLD CREEK SCHOOL, AND AT THE AGE OF FOURTEEN MOVED TO MOOSE JAW, WHERE SHE CONTINUED WITH HER EDUCATION. VI WORKED AT JOHNNIE’S BAKE SHOP DURING THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS AND AT SIXTEEN YEARS OF AGE SHE HAD TO QUIT SCHOOL TO LOOK AFTER HER MOTHER AND HER BROTHER. SHE STAYED AND HELPED AT HOME UNTIL 1946 WHEN SHE MOVED TO REGINA AND BEGAN WORKING AT SIMPSON SEARS LTD. SHE MET GUS STULBERG IN 1946 AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR THEY WERE MARRIED ON JULY 12 IN MOOSE JAW, SASKATCHEWAN. THEY BEGAN THEIR MARRIED LIFE IN MOOSE JAW WHERE GUS JOINED THE AIRFORCE AND OVER THE NEXT TWENTY-FIVE YEARS THEY MOVED THIRTY-SIX TIMES. VI BECAME A SEAMSTRESS AND SEWED FOR A LIVING FROM 1959 UNTIL 1965. SHE ALSO MADE CUSTOM SHOE COVERING AND HATS. THEY MOVED TO VULCAN IN 1973 AND VI BECAME A FULL TIME HOUSEWIFE. OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS SHE WAS IN AND OUT OF THE HOSPITAL SEVERAL TIMES, HAVING NUMEROUS MEDICAL PROBLEMS. SHE QUIT SEWING IN 1979, BUT CONTINUED TO PROVIDE FAMILY AND FRIENDS WITH HER BAKING AND HOMEMADE JAMS. SHE HAS CONTINUED TO RESIDE IN VULCAN EVER SINCE.
VI WAS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH #121 SINCE 1980 AND A MEMBER OF THE FRIENDS OF BURMA STAR.
BELOVED WIFE OF GUS STULBERG OF VULCAN, LOVING DAUGHTER OF ALICE MATHIESON OF MOOSE JAW, THREE SISTERS ALICE (FRANK) JEPPS OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE, JEAN (BOB) AMON OF TAYLOR, B.C., FLORENCE HUTTALA OF MOOSE JAW, TWO BROTHERS JAMES (LYNN) MATHIESON OF KAMLOOPS, SANDY MATHIESON OF CHILLIWACK, A SISTER-IN-LAW AMY ROWE, THREE BROTHERS-IN-LAW ALFRED (DOROTHY) STULBERG ALL OF DAVIDSON, SASKATCHEWAN, JOHN (IRENE) STULBERG OF MOOSEJAW, SASKATCHEWAN, ED (JEAN) STULBERG OF REGINA, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
VI WAS PREDECEASED BY HER SISTER MARGARET (MICHAEL) KOPCO AND HER FATHER.
MEMORIAL SERVICE SATURDAY JUNE 17, 2000 AT 2.00 P.M. AT THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, VULCAN WITH PASTOR FRANK HARRIS OFFICIATING.
AS REQUESTED BY VI HER BODY WAS DONATED TO SCIENCE.
