Strauss, Jerome “Jerry”, of Alston, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on October 18, 2017 at the age of 83 years.
Jerry grew up on the family farm west of Champion and farmed in the area for most of his entire life. He learned the merits of hard work and perseverance early in life and carried those values with him during all of his days. Jerry had a natural understanding of mechanics and used those skills throughout his farming career.
Jerry loved life and even near the end, when his cancer started to overwhelm him, he refused to give in to it. The courage and optimism by which he faced the challenges in his life are an example to us all. Jerry loved his family and friends, and they loved him.
Jerry is survived by his son Robert (Kay) Strauss and four grandchildren: Katherine, Shaylyn, Kevin and Ryan, special friend Yvonne, sisters Mary Plunkett (John) and Eileen Calzavara, brothers Dick (Mary Jane) Strauss and Ralph Strauss and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Felix and Loretta Strauss, first wife Leona, second wife Olive and brother James.
Prayers and Viewing will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 7 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champion, AB. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11 am also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champion, AB, Fr. Angelo D’Acosta presiding. Interment Champion Cemetery.
