The family of Terry Stokes of Lomond are saddened to announce her passing after a long but brave battle with cancer, at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 22, 2024 at the age of 75 years.
Terry was born in Brooks, Alberta on November 15, 1948, to Dick and Hilda Teasdale. She attended and graduated from the Lomond School as well as Secretarial School in Calgary. Terry married her high school sweetheart, Norman Stokes, on October 28, 1967. They moved to the Stokes family homestead and together they raised Craig, Wade and Jami on the farm. Helping with the farm was a large part of Terry’s life and many harvest meals were enjoyed by everyone. Over the years, Terry worked at the Lomond Bar and the Grainland Hardware Store as well as helped her best friend Karen cleaning the Lomond School.
Community and sports were a major part of Terry’s life – baseball (Dusters) and curling, particularly in midsummer bonspiels in Nelson, BC. She loved to coach her girl’s baseball team as well as volunteering in any sport or community event. In later years, Terry enjoyed going to Canmore with Karen with the Scrapbooking crew, creating so many photo memories. She also loved camping with family and friends and these were some of her favorite times.
Her love for her husband Norman was effortless. She adored him. They made a great team with both farming and raising their family. They loved to travel, especially their trips to Great Falls and beyond. Terry will be missed by all.
Terry is survived by her beloved husband Norman, daughter – Jami, two sons – Craig (Stacey) and Wade (Sherry), nine grandchildren whom she was so proud of – Cody, Brayden, Riley, Ashton, Garrett & Kelsey Smith, Andrew (Elona), Mic (Toni) and Ryan (Tanis), brother Jim (Lou) Teasdale, sisters Denise (Ian) McCallum and Joan (Glen) Hart and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Dick and Hilda Teasdale and sister Loretta (Bruce) Gerhan.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 2 pm at the Lomond Multipurpose Gym with Sue MacDonald, D.M. officiating. Interment Lomond Cemetery.
Any tributes in Terry’s memory can be made to the Lomond Arena Building Fund (L.C.C.A.S.), Box 264, Lomond, Alberta, T0L 1G0.

I’m struggling to find the words that honestly capture my emotions having recently heard about Terry’s passing. We grew up together. Her folks and mine were great friends. Indeed, Dick referred to Terry, Brian Huff and me as “the Three Musty Steers”. I recall a day in July of 1965. I had joined the Royal Canadian Navy and had to catch a train to Nova Scotia the next day. Terry and Helen Mercier very kindly came out to the farm to say goodbye and wish me well. Typical of these two wonderful ladies. We were great chums and I will miss them forever ……….. “At rest in the arms of their Father”
