Spaeth, James Leroy “Jim” passed away suddenly at Vulcan on April 30, 2008 at the age of 63 years.
Jim was born May 3, 1944 at Vulcan, Alberta to Howard and Mae Spaeth. He took all his schooling at Vulcan and went onto Olds College. As a young man Jim was a 4-H member, president of the Vulcan Lions Club, SACA coach and member of the Vulcan Golf & Country Club. He met Charlene Webb and they were married October 24, 1964. They moved onto the Spaeth homestead and then moved to the Howard Spaeth Farmstead in 1966. They live there until building a house on the original homestead in 1973.
Jim was a long time farmer until his retirement in 2002. After retirement, he had more time for playing pool, golfing, traveling and his wood working. Jim always enjoyed a good game of bumps and time with family and friends. He loved to show his wood work off, donating pieces to the Vulcan Golf & Country Club & Curling Club and entering in the Senior Games. He also gave his creations away as gifts and even took special orders.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Charlene, son, Leon (Carla), daughter, Jana, two granddaughters Bailey and Sierra, two sisters Lynn (Blain) Middleton and Betty Spaeth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Howard Spaeth in 1965 and Mae Spaeth in 2007.
Memorial service Monday, May 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Vulcan United Church, 210 – 2 Avenue South, Vulcan with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating.
