Dorothy Mae Spaeth, beloved wife of the late Howard Leroy Spaeth, passed away February 20, 2007 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 88 years.
Mae was born September 18, 1918 at Lomond, Alberta to Althea and Milton Cotton. She attended Sunny Plains School and lived in the Armada District. Mae worked in Vulcan and met Howard Spaeth in 1938. They married on June 10, 1940 at the Spaeth family farm at Vulcan. They farmed until Howard’s death in 1965.
Mae was active in the Vulcan Church of Christ and was a member of the Candlelight Ladies. She was also a charter member of the Vulcan Lionettes. Mae loved playing croquet and was an avid curler. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, ceramics and china painting. Mae’s family was very precious to her and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mae is survived by her son Jim (Charlene) and two daughters Lynn (Blain) Middleton and Betty Spaeth, five grandchildren Leon (Carla) Spaeth, Jana Spaeth, August (friend Brenda) Middleton, Mark Middleton and Krista (Stan) Christensen and six great grandchildren, Alex, Lucas, Matt, Bridget, Bailey and Sierra
Mae was predeceased by her husband Howard, her mother Althea, a sister Nellie (George) Stotts, a brother James (Olive) Cotton and a niece Dartha Thompson.
Funeral service Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Vulcan Church of Christ with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating.
Casket bearers August Middleton, Mark Middleton, Leon Spaeth, Jana Spaeth, Krista Christensen and Allan Deal.
Interment Vulcan Cemetery.
