LEONARD RALPH SOKVITNE, OF LOMOND PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY FEBRUARY 22, 2002 AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE AT THE AGE OF 84 YEARS.
LEONARD WAS BORN JUNE 24, 1917 AT LOMOND, ALBERTA TO NELS AND JOHANNA SOKVITNE. HE ATTENDED SNAKE VALLEY SCHOOL AND WORKED ON THE FARM WITH HIS FATHER USING HORSES. HE BEGAN FARMING HIS OWN LAND USING A STEEL-WHEELED TRACTOR. LEONARD MARRIED MURIEL IN FEBRUARY 1945 AND TOGETHER THEY CONTINUED FARMING AND RESIDING IN THE LOMOND DISTRICT.
LEONARD WAS A KIND GENTLE MAN WHO KEPT MOSTLY TO HIMSELF. HE ENJOYED PLAYING CARDS, WATCHING T.V. AND DRIVING AROUND THE COUNTRYSIDE AND KEPT CURRENT ON THE LATEST EQUIPMENT.
LEONARD WAS MEMBER OF THE LOMOND ODD FELLOWS UNTIL IT DISBANDED.
LEONARD IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING WIFE MURIEL, A SON GARRY BOTH OF LOMOND, A GRAND DAUGHTER LISA SOKVITNE AND HER MOTHER MURRELL BOTH OF CALGARY, A BROTHER KEN (FLORENCE) SOKVITNE OF VULCAN, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
LEONARD WAS PREDECEASED BY A SISTER STELLA WILLIAMSON, A BROTHER EDWIN, A NIECE DELLA BALOG , A NEPHEW LEROY AND HIS PARENTS.
A PRIVATE FAMILY GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE AT THE VULCAN CEMETERY.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS TRIBUTES IN LEONARD’S MEMORY COULD BE MADE TO THE VULCAN & DISTRICT E.M.S. BOX 299, VULCAN TOL 2BO.
