SMITH, IVAH MARIAN MILLER, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY JUNE 24, 1992 AT EXTENDICARE NURSING HOME, VULCAN, ALBERTA.
IVAH WAS BORN AT CHAMPION, ALBERTA MAY 4, 1915, THE DAUGHTER OF AL AND ELIZABETH MILLER, PIONEER HOMESTEADERS OF THE CHAMPION AREA. SHE ATTENDED BLUSSON SCHOOL, CHAMPION HIGH SCHOOL AND CALGARY NORMAL SCHOOL WHERE SHE RECEIVED HER CERTIFICATE IN 1935. SHE TAUGHT AT SEVERAL ONE ROOM SCHOOLS AND LATER AT CHAMPION SCHOOL FOR MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS. SHE IS WELL REMEMBERED BY HER STUDENTS FOR HER EXCELLENT TEACHING SKILLS, FIRM DISCIPLINE AND FAIRNESS TO ALL. SHE MARRIED GEORGE FRANKLIN SMITH JR. OF CHAMPION IN 1940 AND THEY FARMED FOR MANY YEARS IN THE AREA.
IVAH WAS A LONG TIME MEMBER OF THE AMITY CLUB OF CHAMPION, THE ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR AND PAST MATRONS CLUB. SHE HAD A GREAT LOVE OF THE LAND, HER HOME AND THE PRAIRIES.
SHE WILL BE LONG REMEMBERED AND MISSED BY HER HUSBAND GEORGE OF NEARLY 52 YEARS OF VULCAN, TWO SONS DOUGLAS (GLORIA) OF LETHBRIDGE AND ROGER (JUDY) OF CHAMPION, A DAUGHTER PATRICIA BROOKS OF CALGARY, EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN JASON, CHRISTOPHER, JAMIE AND HIS FIANCEE GERALDINE, CATHERINE, RYAN, TOMMY, MICHELLE AND LEONARD, A GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER BRIANNA OF CHAMPION, A BROTHER HUGH “JAMMIE” (PAT) MILLER OF VICTORIA, TWO NIECES BONNIE AND MAGEE, AND HER VERY DEAR FRIEND AND COMPANION WINNIE VILOGA, WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR IVAH TO REMAIN IN HER HOME FOR ANOTHER YEAR.
FUNERAL SERVICES SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 1992 AiVT 2:00 P.M. AT THE EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, CHAMPION WITH PASTOR LARRY LOSEY OFFICIATING. INTERMENT CHAMPION CEMETERY.
