SMITH, Barbara Violet   1934 – 2024

Barbara Violet Smith, of Calgary (formerly of Vulcan), passed away peacefully at the Calgary South health Campus Hospital on May 9, 2024 at the age of 90 years.

Barbara was born April 2, 1934 in Vulcan, AB, eldest of eight children born to Reg and Ethel Sansome. Barbara took her schooling in Long Coulee, Blueson, Kirkcaldy and Champion.

Barbara married Ben Smith on April 6, 1957 and together they raised four boys and farmed north of Vulcan.

She worked at Vulcan Bowling Alley & Marble Café and enjoyed cooking, baking and like watching her favorite shows on TV. She also enjoyed collecting Christmas novelties, fashion jewelry and clothes.

When she moved to Calgary she spent her last years in the care of her family and also got into watching her favorite shows like Bold and The Beautiful, Heartland and The Pioneer Woman cooking show.

Barbara is survived by her children – Gordon (Dorothy) of Nakusp, British Columbia, Ron (Lori) of Canmore, AB, Mark of Vulcan and Wesley (Ester) of Calgary, Grandchildren Shaun, Carla, Robbie, Scott, Crystal, Amber, Brent , Joe, Craig and Amy and great-grandchildren Lily, Kylie, Easton, Madisson, Hailey, Brody, Audrey, Beau, Lexon, Atticus, Olivia, Cayden, Reid, Wilder and Tyson, her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Reg and Ethel, husband Ben Smith and siblings.

A Family Graveside service at the Vulcan Cemetery will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 with a Social Gathering following at the Vulcan Legion at 2 pm.

    Deepest condolences Ron, Gordon, Wes, Mark and families. A lovely, kind lady and neighbour during my time living in Vulcan.
